INTELLIGENT SECURITY TO AID YOUR FM|SECOM
As one of the leading on and off-site security services providers in the UK, Secom knows the value of safe and effective FM.
The office or place of work is the heart of your business and it pays not to cut corners when it comes to protecting it. At Secom, we believe that security is a fundamental aspect of good FM and those who do not give their premises the protection that they deserve will nearly always regret their decision.
FM WITH ELECTRONIC
SECURITY SYSTEMS Quite rightly, crime gets a great deal of public attention and media scrutiny and if serious incidents were to occur in your building, the negative impacts may be felt for some time. Crime is likely to be extremely damaging both in terms of your bottom line and your reputation. We know that FMs have to ensure they are protected against traditional crimes such as petty theft, but increasingly the role also has to deal with other callous crimes including vandalism, arson and headline-grabbing armed robberies.
Secom has seen how our electronic security solutions combat these threats by offering a strong deterrent and when a crime is perpetrated, our security systems can be a source of crucial evidence.
INTELLIGENT ELECTRONICS The sophisticated solution is built
around cutting-edge algorithm- based video analytics. They are brilliantly utilised in a series of ‘intelligent’ motion-sensing megapixel cameras. These are capable of capturing high-resolution images that make it much easier for police to use in their investigations. Each camera has its own integrated digital video recorder (DVR) and is linked via Ethernet or wireless connection to an existing IP network.
This means that when a suspicious event triggers the motion sensors, the cameras send video images to the Secom monitoring operator, who can then assess additional images from the inbuilt DVR - and others on the site - before making an appropriate response.
Key points include:
- Advanced video analytics - System responds only to suspicious events
- Low-bandwidth IP transmission -Easy installation - More cost-effective than manned guarding
AWARD-WINNING
SECURITY SYSTEMS The solution meant that Secom was voted in third place out of 50 entrants by the readers of Tomorrow’s FM in the publication’s Products & Services Awards 2013. Alan Blake, our Sales & Marketing Director, said: “Secom are very proud to have finished in third place in the Tomorrow’s FM Products
CASE STUDY We recently delivered an award-
winning security system to leading equipment rental and support services provider, Speedy. We were asked to bring a high level of security to their busy plant hire yard in an industrial complex on the outskirts of Rugby in the East Midlands.
This posed a number of potentially challenging scenarios as the site is positioned in a rural location, spread across three acres. Security was a big concern for Speedy as the yard is often home to high-value assets. Previously, they had used manned security by employing guards overnight and at weekends, but this was proving not

& Services Awards and we would like to thank all of the readers who voted for us. Our Intelligent Camera Solution has been very well received in the marketplace and provides a proactive solution which is a cost-effective alternative to traditional ‘after the event has happened’ reactive CCTV.
“Our Remote Video Response Centre (RVRC) operators have responded to numerous activations from the Intelligent Camera systems installed, which have detected suspicious/ criminal activity, some of which has resulted in police attendance to site and the apprehension of intruders. Secom will continue to invest in and develop technological advances in electronic security and provide our customers with total peace of mind to go about their daily business.”

only to be ineffective in terms of cost, but also problematic when personnel did not report for duty.
After assessing the best way to implement the available security technology, we decided that an intelligent CCTV system would suit Speedy’s needs. The firm found that it offered unprecedented access to information in the event of an on- site security incident and was a very strong visual deterrent.
