What is so special about the water
mist extinguisher? ‘Dry’ water mist is super fine water spray which is discharged from the extinguisher to form a mist curtain. Water mist uses 100% de-ionised water but has broader fire fighting capabilities than powder, foam and wet chemical extinguishers. The E-series ‘dry’ water mist can be used on A, B, C and even F Class (deep fat fryers) fires.
How can this broad fire fighting
power be achieved with water? The supersonic nozzle design used by the E-series extinguishers allows them to produce over 22 billion water droplets from only one litre of water. The rapid expansion into steam when the mist contacts fire drops the temperature of the fire quickly and the expanding steam immediately cuts off the oxygen supply of the fire. When fighting fat fires, the mist does not enter the surface of the burning fat, avoiding violent eruptions, which could spread the fire.
How could installing water mist extinguishers benefit
FM companies? ‘Dry’ water mist leaves almost no trace and causes minimum damage.
Also, as the extinguisher is capable of tackling all common fires including class A, B, C, F and electrical fires, there is no need to install a water mist and a complimentary extinguisher, such as a CO2 extinguisher. Employees therefore only need to be trained in how to use one type of extinguisher. The application of the extinguisher is also safer, as the mist clears the air of smoke particles and builds a cooling buffer between the user and the fire.
This sounds too good to be true,
do you have any examples? A well-known hotel group, Snoozebox, installed the water mist extinguishers into each of their hotel rooms. A fire broke out in one of the rooms but the occupant was able to put the fire out quickly and safely with one of the water mist extinguishers. The fire was caused by a croissant being put into a toaster. There was no cleaning up to do after the fire was put out. Remarkably, after the event, the toaster was PAT tested and was put back into service!
So the water mist extinguisher is
safe to use on electric fires too? Yes, the water droplets created by the E-series extinguishers are so finely dispersed that electricity cannot travel through them. This allows them to be used safely on and around fires involving electrical equipment without the risk of injury to the user. We still recommend the standard 1m safety distance when tackling a fire in a live electrical appliance.
How environmentally friendly are

safe to discharge the extinguisher into the environment when testing or servicing. No replacement chemicals are needed when refilling the extinguisher.
Have these water mist extinguishers
been tested? The Jewel E-series is produced using a BAFE approved manufacturing process and has been tested to the highest standards, achieving a CE mark and the Kitemark to BS EN3 certification.
Where can the water mist
extinguisher be installed? Water mist extinguishers are being installed in schools, churches, hotels, restaurants and shops. They are especially suited for areas where there is an increased risk of accidental discharge. The jet of mist also has a low velocity, so that there is almost no risk of injury if the extinguisher is directed at a person, which is important in a school environment.
