New COSHH Cupboard for Safer Liquids Storage
As part of its continued commitment to new product development, hygienic furniture specialist Teknomek has expanded its floor cupboard range with a dedicated liquids storage cupboard. Designed to make the storage of potentially dangerous liquids much safer and more secure, the cupboard has a removable liquid capture tray which is critical when organisations are dealing with hazardous substances.
Teknomek has designed the new cupboard to be perfect for purpose. Key to this is the 20mm deep, removable liquid capture tray. As per the requirements of COSHH, the tray ensures that should potentially dangerous liquids leak, they can be s contained and easily dealt with. The cupboard, which is made from 304 Stainless Steel, has lockable doors to keep liquids secure. At one metre tall, it can hold either 25 litre or 50 litre containers and includes a removable shelf so that storage space is maximised. Additional shelves are also an option.
“Unlike our other floor cupboards, the liquids storage cupboard has no drainage holes, to ensure that any liquids being stored are retained within the unit,” explained Sue Springett, Commercial Manager at Teknomek. “In the case of any leaks or spills, the liquid capture tray can be easily removed from the cupboard and the leaked liquid can be safely neutralised.”
The new storage cupboard is ideal for any environment where hygiene is a priority. With a floor clearance of 150mm it allows for easy access for thorough cleaning below the unit and has been designed for easy cleaning along the sides and rear underneath. It has a sloping top to prevent it being used as an unplanned work surface and to make exterior cleaning exceptionally easy. With four stainless steel adjustable feet, with a non-marking rubber base for levelling, the cupboard is robust enough to withstand the toughest of manufacturing environments.
“The majority of our customers are working within COSHH regulations so we’re always looking for ways to help them. The liquids storage cupboard is the first of several enhancements we are making to our range of cupboards, and we’re delighted that it has already been so well-received,” continued Sue Springett. “Because every business is different, we can adapt the liquids cupboard design to meet the specific needs of any organisation.”

Space Saving Sterilisation Solutions: Leading Class Volume to Space Ratios
In answer to the needs of many customers, requiring large capacity autoclaves in limited spaces, LTE Scientific can provide a space efficient smart solution. Through clever redesign of their market leading Touchclave Lab Range, LTE can now offer a greater scope of solutions to businesses requiring varied volumes of sterilisation within confined spaces.
There are three models within LTE’s Touchclave autoclave range, starting with the Touchclave R model with its cylindrical chamber and in-chamber heating. The ‘R’ model has the smallest footprint with capacities ranging from 40 Litres up to 160 Litres, available in both top-loading and front-loading, with the 40 Litre model being suitable for benchtop sterilising.
For medium to large capacity loads the Touchclave Lab ‘K’ model, with a choice of steam generator or direct steam options, includes many features to optimise performance and reduce load processing times. The Touchclave-K model is available in 5 sizes from 150 Litres to 450 Litres and is now available in a compact configuration. As standard these square chambered autoclaves have the narrowest width despite the increased chamber size offering a stylish slim solution, whereas the new compact model offers a reduced depth yet increased width whilst keeping the same chamber size, providing the ideal solution for rooms where layout constraints are an issue.
Last but certainly not least, LTE Touchclave systems are designed for large capacities where heavy and continued throughput is required. Sizes start at 435 Litres up to 1052 Litres as standard and are also available in sizes up to 10,000 Litres. Available as single entry or pass-through in all sizes, the Touchclave Systems range can be supplied as multi- purpose or porous load variants.

Microbiological Safety Cabinets for Gene Therapy Applications
Gene Therapy is a rapidly expanding market within the global biotechnology industry. Using techniques such as CRIPSR, a gene editing technology, the aim is to treat and prevent diseases. By inserting or altering harmful genes in a patient cell, it can reduce the need for surgeries or drugs. The UK is at the forefront of advancing Gene Therapy technology, innovation hubs such as those in White City, London and Stevenage have spearheaded development.
To carry out experimental work, companies require specialist infrastructure. For example, Biopharma Group installed 10 Premium 212 Microbiological Safety cabinets to a Gene Therapy company based in White City. This is the second company within the emerging hub of innovative life sciences start-ups to install Faster cabinets.
A Microbiological safety cabinet provides product, personnel and environmental protection while handling biological samples (as in tissue culture, biological testing, pathogenic samples).
Ambient air is drawn in from slots at the stainless-steel base of the front opening and it passes under the work surface, from where it’s drawn up and blown into the plenum of the re-circulating and exhaust fan(s).
70% of filtered air is re-circulated (after passing through a H14 HEPA/ULPA filter) into the work chamber and the remaining 30% is exhausted to atmosphere through another filter.
Features to consider when purchasing a Class II cabinet are safety, cost, noise and location. The Premium 212 is one of the most energy efficient cabinets on the market, it is also one of the quietest at 42dB meaning a lab with several cabinets can be a relaxing work area for any kind of experiment.
