12 High Performance Consumables for Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry
Thermo Scientifi c has launched a new collection of caps, vials, inserts, kits, well plates and mats. This new portfolio is designed for improved analytical performance and sample security for chromatography and mass spectrometry users in routine and research laboratories, across a diverse range of sectors such as pharma, biopharma, clinical, food, environmental and academia.
The Thermo Scientifi c SureSTART portfolio is compatible with all add-on and chromatography autosamplers, allowing analysts to use the new portfolio regardless of the instrument vendor. The new collection provides sample security and low compound adsorption, even for challenging, low-level analytes. This provides laboratories with the needed confi dence in their results every time, and reduces the time needed for reviewing background peaks or identifying analytes that have shifted retention times. The SureSTART line draws from existing products that have been successful in the market for more than 40 years and improves the product experience - providing precise and consistent measurements between different vials and different lots.
“As a trusted provider of vials, closures and well plates, we continue to innovate to offer laboratories the improved fl exibility and assurance needed to meet analytical requirements,” said Detlev Lennartz, Product Manager, Sample Handling, Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry, Thermo Fisher. “SureSTART consumables are built from high-quality materials that meet both the performance and price requirements of our customers, providing the confi dence they need to analyse challenging analytes. Additionally, the new collection is fully compatible with GC, GC-MS, LC and LC-MS analytical instruments and includes three performance levels to help laboratories choose the right product for their experimental needs.”

New Method Development Solution: Software Support for Analytical HPLC Method Development and Optimisation
Shimadzu has announced the release of its ‘LabSolutions MD’ software for analytical HPLC method development. In addition to established ‘Method Scouting’ functionality that enables automated, quick and simple column and solvent screening, the new LabSolutions MD method development solution supports ‘Analytical Quality by Design’ (AQbD). With a multifactorial experimental design, only a limited amount of experimental data is required to create a defi ned design space. Computer simulation and retention modelling within this design space allow for fast, statistically informed decisions on suitable, robust separation conditions, while reducing the risk of human error. LabSolutions MD, in combination with the Shimadzu LabSolutions chromatography data system, provides data management, evaluation, and intuitive reporting, all in a LabSolutions database, ensuring data integrity.

Mistral evaporators
are designed with new fl at front profi le and platform shuttle enabling easy interfacing with liquid-handling robots for increased automation effi ciency. Reproducible sample throughput is achieved by proprietary advances in gas injection technology to directly and consistently deliver heated gas in each well and tube. It is however the full RS232 control of every parameter achieved through powerful operating software, combined with its open- access design, that enables the Ultravap®
Mistral to be easily integrated with liquid
handling robots to gain the full benefi t of automating microplate dry-down. The Ultravap®
Mistral XT-150 is Porvair’s most advanced evaporator yet, giving
signifi cant throughput advantages to laboratories routinely tasked with sample preparation. Faster than centrifugal evaporation for single plates and tube racks, signifi cant increases in sample throughput are achieved through advanced evaporator head technology and an innovative manifold design, which directly injects heated nitrogen (temperatures up to 80ºC) into each individual well of the microplate simultaneously.
The Ultravap® Mistral core software has been specially coded to allow simultaneous
control of multiple operating units from a single, primary Ultravap® Using the latest CAN interface technology, Ultravap®
Mistral evaporator. Mistral units can be connected
together in series. A method selected on a primary unit will be automatically distributed over the CAN Bus to all downstream units to run the programme simultaneously.
