6 Gas Detection The Complete Boiler Room Gas Detection Solution from IGD
Boiler rooms play a vital role in producing heat and energy in both homes and industrial environments, but they present several gas hazards that require careful consideration and an appropriate gas detection system. Fortunately, IGD can provide state-of-the-art, scalable gas detection solutions for boiler rooms of any size, powered by our pioneering technology, and backed up by over a century of innovation.
Boiler room gas hazards include:
Carbon monoxide (CO) - A colourless, odourless, toxic and fl ammable gas linked to an average of 60 deaths per year in England and Wales. Methane (CH4) - A fl ammable hydrocarbon, and signifi cant greenhouse gas that is lighter than air. LPG – Naturally occurring fl ammable compounds, that are heavier than air.
Each boiler room type requires a different gas detection solution. As the world’s oldest gas detection specialist and a recognised industry leader, you can rely on IGD to provide bespoke solutions for any boiler room. We utilise a combination of fi xed and portable gas detectors, and our advanced 2-Wire Addressable gas detection systems to provide you with protection that’s comprehensive, cost-effective, and hassle-free.

Groundbreaking new monitor is the fi rst to provide precise, real-time respirable crystalline silica measurements
The AIR XS Silica Monitor, from Trolex, which provides real- time silica monitoring for workers at risk from respirable crystalline silica (RCS), has been effectively tested to prove the effi cacy of real-time silica monitor that could save thousands of lives, representing a revolution in the protection for workers exposed to RCS.
With an estimated between 40 to 50 million workers worldwide exposed to harmful RCS in the workplace, Trolex’s mission to protect workers from this dangerous occupational dust has led the company to successfully developing the AIR XS.
AIR XS the only product in the world to detect and distinguish RCS in real time and is designed to function in all challenging industrial environments, by using patented Optical Refraction Technology (ORT) to detects all forms of crystalline.
The results of Trolex’s recent testing, commissioned by a leading occupational hygiene and laboratory testing organisation show the AIR XS repeatedly provided consistent, accurate, real-time data throughout an eight-hour testing period.
The testing demonstrates that AIR XS can improve worker safety by providing instant information to businesses and workers exposed to RCS, instead of having to wait up to four weeks to know their level of exposure to this killer dust, which is the current industry standard.

The new SR-LD 800 and SR-LD 200 remote laser gas detectors from Sewerin enhance safety and effi ciency in a variety of applications, such as inspecting a house’s connections from outside of the property’s boundary or checking gas pipes located under bridges. Additionally, all operational components at biogas plant can be easily inspected for leaks. Thanks to these devices’ remote detection technology, the tightness of the tank’smembrane connection can be inspected without the hazard and hassle of climbing ladders.
Thanks to the high resolution of the instruments’ measurement laser, these devices achieve exceptionally high sensitivity. The SR-LD 800 and SR-LD 200 are designed to detect methane gas and are both unaffected by cross-interference from other gases due to the use of TDLAS (Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy), a high resolution, non-dispersive spectrometric technique.
The SR-LDs effi ciently detect methane gas even over long distances of up to 200 metres. A laser beam emitted by the detector is refl ected of a surface. If methane is present along the measurement path, it willabsorb the laser beam’s signal. The device calculates methane concentration based on signal attenuation. The devices adjust the zero-point automatically as the distance changes, ensuring reliable detection.
Both remote laser detectors are very compact, lightweight and user-friendly. They can be fully charged in just 2 ½ hours and are always ready for use thanks to the spare rechargeable batteries provided. The automatic adjustment of the measuring lasers is performed conveniently and effi ciently within the carrying case.
