Rain and precipitation measurement made easy, wherever and whenever its needed
The RHD sensor from Sommer is a competitively priced, high precision, ultra-robust rain gauge instrument. It is a very low-power, maintenance- free and totally sealed acoustic instrument with no mobile parts. The sensing part of the instrument is a polished stainless-steel hemisphere supported by a strong stainless-steel arm.
Impact of raindrops or hailstones induces change in internal acoustic
pressure. In addition to the rain intensity data, the distrometer function also provides information about the drop size distribution. If you need a solution for remote or tough to access areas and you do not have the manpower for regular checking/maintenance of your rain gauge then this is the perfect choice of sensor. It is also available as a “plug and play” station which includes data storage, data processing installation tools and enough power solution to be an autonomous station.
The instrument includes a dedicated analogue conditioning module, a digital I/O module and an analogue restitution module. It can therefore be connected to, or communicate conveniently with, almost any external analogue or digital central unit (data logger, industrial module interface, instrumentation DAQ, USB port). It features continuous or pulse analogue voltage outputs and supports SDI-12 communication, serial RS-232, and Modbus RTU RS485 (using an optional adapter).

Innovation signals instrument sales growth The UK instrumentation manufacturer
Signal Group experienced a signifi cant rise in sales during 2023, with strong demand for its gas analysis and associated equipment. Signal Group Managing Director James Clements says: “The growth in our business has continued in 2024, and as a result we are undertaking a major recruitment drive to ensure that we will continue to develop the market’s most advanced gas analysers, calibrators and sample handling equipment.”
James attributes the company’s growth to its long-term commitment to research and development. “Around 20% of our turnover is invested in product development,” he explains. “This ensures that we are able to respond quickly to changing customer needs, whilst taking advantage of the latest technologies. For example, our latest Series 4 analysers offer remote connectivity, as well as a removable screen which can function as a tablet. These innovative features are proving extremely popular with customers and help explain the expansion of our market share.”
With its focus on innovation, most of the company’s recruitment needs are for software and fi rmware engineers, as well as experienced service and installation engineers.
In addition to product innovation, James also attributes Signal’s growth to two other factors. “Firstly, in our experience, customers greatly appreciate a fast and comprehensive after-sales service capability,” James adds. “Secondly, they fi nd it reassuring that we are a manufacturer, and that we manufacture here in the UK. So, to highlight this, we have recently become a member of ‘Made in Britain’.”
Sales growth at Signal has been from both the domestic and international markets, but James says: “The greatest increase in demand has come from UK research, particularly from those involved with engine development, working with clean low-carbon fuels.”

üCompact analyzer with integrated pump üSimultaneous NO, NO2, NH3 measurement üInternal data logger and touch panel PC üRemote operation and POWER UP/DOWN üUSB, HDMI, LAN/WLAN, Bluetooth, RS-232, Analog I/O
The three-channel chemiluminescence based NOX/NH3 analyzers of the nCLD "Facelift" box-solution analyzers detect NO, NO2, NOX and NH3 at concentration ranges from 0-50ppb to 0-50ppm with a minimal detection limit from 0.4ppb. The three-channel nCLD AL3/ 8555 includes an internal pump and the slightly modified front panel has been equipped with an additional Power-button and a new internal PC. Additionally, all nCLD-models are capable of a remote power control, including a failsafe feature. The AL3/8555 is the ideal instrument for ambient air monitoring, either installed in racks, fixed monitoring stations or mobile laboratories. The instrument’s inlet operates at ambient pressure. Calibration of the unit runs quick and automatic while all necessary data is continuously stored and readily available anywhere and at any time. According to ISO EN 14211.
