41 New Product Food Line
For the first time Omnilab-Laborzentrum GmbH & Co KG presents their new product line FoodALYT at Analytica. The product range consits of units for nitrogen determination according to Kjeldahl, fat extraction according to Soxhlet resp. Twisselmann and also steam distillation units are included. The steam distillation units are also used for sample preparation.
ANALYTICA NEWS
For Omnilab the Analytica is a good platform to contact new international partners and customers and to spark further interest in FoodALYT. “Safety and reliability are most important to us. These properties are represented by our new product line FoodALYT,” sais Joachim Jürgens, CEO of Omnilab. Omnilab is a highly specialised supplier of food anayses systems for decades and has transferred this knowledge into these products.

Scientifically Based Foam Analysis
Foamability, stability and drainage - with the DFA100 Dynamic Foam Analyser, Krüss has put together an all-round package for foam analysis. Almost anyone wanting to analyse foam production or prevention will find a competent ally in the DFA100.
Volumes from 20ml are foamed with high reproducibility in the column using a gas stream or stirrer. The volumes of foam and liquid are determined continuously and without contact. Thanks to the high sampling rate, the unit even measures very unstable foams.
The software provides characteristics such as decay half-life or values analogue to Ross-Miles in passing, while it determines the transition from pure drainage to decay and the end point of drainage using new patented parameters. The measurement can be parameterised very flexibly.
Space-saving design, rapid column change with easy cleaning, and automatic, statistically evaluated repeat measurements make for the utmost convenience. An option to measure on several columns simultaneously and independently is exceedingly time saving.

Diba Industries and Bio-Chem Fluidics exhibited jointly at Analytica 2010. Diba Industries showcased its Omnifit Labware low-pressure liquid chromatography (LPLC) columns, featuring a new range for standard aqueous applications. A new high temperature range of columns is also available for flow chemistry and LPLC separations at elevated temperatures. The company also offers a complete line of fluid path components including the torque-assuring Click-N-Seal Connections in a range of fitting styles, Flared Tubing Assemblies, Precision Tubing, and Probes for reagent and sample transfer. Diba designs custom Caps and Bottles for reagents and waste, and will also be launching a new line of solvent waste container bottle caps. The new line will allow the company to offer a complete closed system solution for laboratory solvent handling.
ANALYTICA NEWS
Bio-Chem Fluidics featured its new lines of electric rotary valves, stepper motor operated devices used for sample collection, loop injection or flow path selection. The company also featured its new molded body pinch valves that provide a full bore passage through flexible tube, which is pinched off to produce a tight seal while restricting fluid contact to the inside of the tube.

Certificate Confirms Choice for Large-Scale Outsourced Microarray Studies
Following almost two years as an Agilent microarray Certified Service Provider, Oxford Gene Technology (OGT) and Agilent Technologies, Inc announced that OGT is the first company to be named as a High-Throughput Certified Service Provider (HT CSP) for Agilent microarrays. This new level of the Agilent certification provides official validation of OGT’s use of Agilent microarrays in a high-throughput environment and reflects OGT’s status as the supplier of choice for large-scale outsourced microarray studies. The certificate has been awarded following rigorous assessment of the high-quality experimental data routinely generated by OGT’s unique high-throughput analysis service – Genefficiency™. OGT’s facility recently completed a 22,000 sample, array comparative genomic hybridisation (aCGH) copy number variation (CNV) study for the Wellcome Trust Case Control Consortium. This was the largest ever CNV study to date, generating almost 2 billion data points to exacting quality requirements, in a short timeframe of only 20 weeks.
The HT CSP Certificate was warmly welcomed by OGT’s CEO, Mike Evans: “This certification is a significant endorsement of OGT capabilities. Importantly, this endorsement is also reflected in our customer recommendations; around 65% of our business comes from word-of-mouth, with close to a 100% referral rate from new and existing customers. And we’re not standing still, as we have made significant investments in personnel, equipment and facilities to maintain our position as the worldwide leader in high quality, high-throughput microarray analysis.”
Chris Grimley, Senior Marketing Director of Agilent Technologies Genomics business, said: “Agilent is pleased to offer OGT our first certification for High-Throughput Service Provider. OGT has been very successful integrating Agilent Automation Solution instrumentation and Agilent microarrays for an efficient laboratory workflow. We are confident that customers will benefit from the combination of Agilent products and OGT high-throughput service.”

The Duran Group will launch a completely new range of products under the name ‘Super Duty’: Duran beakers and Erlenmeyer flasks for mechanically demanding tasks.
The new super duty products have two major advan-tages over conventional Duran vessels: First of all, the mechanical sturdiness has been significantly improved due to the increased glass thickness. The second advantage is the reinforced rim, which not only increases the shock resistance, but considerably reduces the risk of breakage.
This extension of the previous Duran product portfolio thereby provides the highest level of safety possi-ble for users confronted with tasks with a high level of mechanical stress such as frequent cleaning or general handling in the laboratory.
More product advantages of the Super Duty glass-ware include the increased shock resistance that leads to a longer lifespan and means that their use ‘pays off’ for the user. Of course, they are also characterised by the established Duran properties such as very high chemical resistance, nearly inert behaviour, a high usage temperature, and autoclavability.
The following manufacturer specifications apply to use: In order to avoid thermal stressing of the glass, uniform and slow heating is recommended. When working at very high temperatures or if rapid temperature changes are expected, the Duran Group recommends using standard vessels as those are characterised by excellent thermal shock resistance.
The mechanical sturdiness of those products is limited compared with the super duty products.
