LED Light Provides Error-Free and Comfortable Pipetting

The PIPETBOY pro enables the user to quickly, accurately and reliably dose liquids just by applying variable finger pressure on the pipettor trigger buttons, changing between drop by drop dispensing or fast motorised pipetting at a adjustable speed of up to 10ml/sec.

Microtitre Plate Incubator Shakes up the Life Science Market Launched at Analytica, the latest shaking incubator from Stuart®
The SI505 complements Stuart’s highly successful SI500 shaking incubator, incorporating the same digital display, retractable stainless steel platform giving easy sample access, and USB connectivity for long-term monitoring of the incubator temperature on a PC. Up to four microtitre plates fit on the non-slip mat and a range of accessory racks for different tube sizes are also available for the SI505. The integrated timer can be set for any period from 1 second to 9 days and speed and temperature are independently controlled. An easy-to-use digital LED control panel enables temperature to be set between ambient temperature +7ºC and 60ºC, while air distribution is controlled to ensure uniformity throughout the sample chamber.

Robert Skehens, Bibby Scientific Marketing Director, commented: “What sets the SI505 apart in the market is that it has been designed and built specifically as a microtitre plate incubator and shaker. With an orbit of just 1.5mm and high maximum speed of 1,250rpm, the shaking action is optimised for microtitre plates. By contrast, conventional shakers with a larger orbit of around 16mm and very much slower speeds cannot provide effective mixing for small sample volumes in well plates and micro tubes. Another key feature is the strategic placing of stainless steel water trays within the SI505. These maintain a humidity of up to 80% in order to minimise sample evaporation – a key issue when incubating microtitre plates.”
In common with other Stuart® benchtop equipment, the new shaking incubator benefits from BioCote® antimicrobial protection as standard. This silver-based technology reduces the risk of cross-contamination and infection within the laboratory by eliminating surface level bacteria, mould and fungi. New Tubes Make Automated Urinalysis Easy
The new Sterilin 16 x 100mm rimless tubes are ideal for easy and efficient automated urinalysis. With 11ml capacity, these high quality, clear polystyrene tubes fit perfectly into the racking of leading automated urinalysis systems, including the Sysmex UF100 and UF1000i, Iris IQ 200 and Menarini sediMAX systems, for fast and reliable processing.
The Sterilin tubes have a rounded base profile to ensure efficient mixing of the urine sample by the analyser prior to testing and, if samples need to be retained following analysis, Sterilin push-fit caps provide an efficient seal for leak-free storage.
Urine analysis is one of the most common non-invasive methods for initial patient health screening and many laboratories throughout the world use automated analysers for increased efficiency and to provide timely, accurate and quantitative results. Most standard primary urine containers hold large sample volumes (20 – 150ml), whereas the racking for most automated urinalysis systems is designed to hold 11ml tubes.
Where a suitable primary urine tube has not been used, urine samples can be decanted quickly and easily into Sterilin 11ml tubes, which have been designed to fit the racking of most automated urinalysis systems.

New High Fidelity DNA Polymerase
Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc announced the new Thermo Scientific Verbatim High Fidelity DNA Polymerase. This unique, advanced DNA polymerase allows highly accurate amplification of DNA templates, equivalent to industry leading proofreading enzymes, while maintaining processing speed and delivering high yields. These high-performance characteristics make Verbatim High Fidelity DNA Polymerase ideal for demanding downstream applications such as cloning, site-directed mutagenesis and sequencing. High Fidelity PCR requires a DNA polymerase with proofreading capabilities, and should be used in applications requiring accurate amplification of a DNA target. Thermo Scientific demonstrated the advanced proofreading capabilities of Verbatim High Fidelity DNA Polymerase during in an in-house comparative evaluation. Verbatim demonstrated its industry leading performance by delivering greater enzyme fidelity than all other enzymes tested1 (Taq DNA polymerase, Pfu DNA polymerase/Taq blend, KOD DNA polymerase and a leading fusion enzyme).
Verbatim High Fidelity DNA Polymerase also demonstrates increased affinity for DNA templates, which significantly improves yield and processivity. This increased processivity allows PCR protocol times to be reduced by up to 75 percent, for faster results. Enhanced DNA binding affinity also ensures that Verbatim is suitable for a broad range of templates, and the enzyme is supplied with two optimised buffering systems - one for standard templates and the other for more complex targets (such as GC-rich templates). Thermo Scientific Verbatim High Fidelity DNA Polymerase kits (with sufficient reagents for 200 or 1000 reactions) are available with or without dNTPs.
