35 Product Range Ready for New Harmonised European Disc Diffusion Method

Oxoid announced that the Oxoid range of products for antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) includes all products recommended by EUCAST (the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing) for use in the new, harmonised European disc diffusion method, due for launch in 2010.

The Oxoid range includes: all the antimicrobial compounds recommended in the new EUCAST method, as part of the standard Oxoid range of antimicrobial discs; Mueller-Hinton Agar in dehydrated form or a variety of prepared media formats (plain or with defibrinated horse blood and NAD); ergonomically-designed disc dispensers for the accurate placement of discs onto a variety of agar plate sizes (90, 120 and 140mm); the Oxoid Turbidometer for accurate preparation of 0.5 McFarland inocula; and a wide range of QC organisms, including all EUCAST-recommended strains, in convenient Culti-Loop format for quick, easy and safe preparation of standardized cultures.

EUCAST was formed in 1997 with the aim of achieving a European consensus on susceptibility testing to enable comparability of data and resistance surveillance within the international community. The new European disc diffusion methodology has been calibrated to EUCAST- harmonised MIC breakpoints, which are now in widespread use throughout Europe.

Optimised Systems for Concentration or Removal of Solvents

Highly Dynamic Temperature Control Systems

ANALYTICA NEWS

Genevac Ltd chose Analytica 2010 to launch new capabilities for its ROCKET Evaporator and to display SP Industries high productivity AdVantage Plus Freeze Drying system.

Product specialists from Genevac were available to discuss and propose solutions to optimally concentrate or remove solvents from almost any sample safely and productively.

Visitors saw the Puck - a new accessory that extends the sampling versatility of the Rocket Evaporator to simultaneously accommodate up to 18 Accelerated Solvent Extractor (ASE®

) tubes. This new

development makes the system ideally suited to environmental, food and agricultural scientists that commonly employ solvent extraction techniques and require concentration of extracted samples prior to analysis. Benefiting from a patented low temperature, low-pressure steam heating technology - the ASE Compatible Rocket Evaporator is able to uniquely achieve the dual goals of very fast evaporation with very precise temperature control thereby accelerating the safe concentration of extraction samples. Evaporation of ASE tubes is fast, safe and provides excellent recoveries of even the most volatile analytes. In addition proprietary Dri- Pure®

technology prevents solvent bumping and

cross contamination inherent with rotary evaporator and other vacuum evaporation systems.

Also on display was the fast and efficient AdVantage Plus Freeze Dryer. AdVantage Series Freeze Dryers incorporate proven freeze drying technology in the smallest possible footprint. These compact, affordable units are loaded with functions that enable materials to be processed quickly, efficiently, and conveniently. As user friendly as they are sophisticated, an animated synoptic display provides operational status including alarm information at a glance. An optional Wizard workstation enables all aspects of the lyophilisation cycle to be precisely controlled, monitored, recorded and presented in graphic format.

New Compact Recirculating Cooler

The new compact recirculating cooler F250 by Julabo is a budget- priced, basic, and user-friendly instrument designed especially for routine application in day-to-day laboratory work. The unit cools with a closed circuit and uses only between one and 2 litres of refrigerant. The working temperatures range from +5°C to +40°C with a temperature stability of ±0.5°C (PID-control). The easily adjustable pump has a pressure capacity of 0.35 bar with a minimum flow rate of 15 l/min. Additional features include a splash-proof keypad, LED temperature display, filling nozzle on top of the unit as well as a filling level indicator. Thanks to its small foot print and the frontal vents the unit is ideal for flexible laboratory applications and provides optimal process stability.

The F250 cools efficiently, reduces operational costs and protects the environment by saving expensive tap water. Due to its low purchase price the unit will amortise itself in no time.

Julabo’s product series ‘Presto PLUS’ offers highly dynamic temperature control systems for demanding, external temperature control. ‘Presto PLUS’ systems are used primarily for the temperature control of jacketed reaction vessels, autoclaves and reactor systems. The large heating and cooling capacities combined with state-of-the-art control technology and small liquid volumes provide short heat-up and cool-down times for fast compensation of exothermic and endothermic reactions. The closed-system design permits a wide range of working temperatures without changing the bath fluid while at the same time preventing fumes and odours. The closed-system prevents the oxidation of bath fluid resulting in a prolonged bath fluid lifetime when compared with openair circulators. This feature also prevents

condensation and ice build-up at low working temperatures. The ‘Presto PLUS’ series includes 6 models in different performance classes with cooling capacities up to 7 kW, heating capacities up to 6 kW and pump capacities up to 30 l/min. Working temperatures range from -80 to 250°C depending on the model. All models feature a removable control which enables remote operation of units under fume hoods. In addition the units offer extensive features with analogue and digital interfaces, automatic filling and degassing functions, pullout handles, wheels and numerous warning, protection and monitoring functions. Refer to the new catalogue for further information, now available free of charge by calling +49 7823 51-190 or at www.julabo.de.
