Telstar has developed a new generation of biological safety cabinets, which are more compact and optimise the usable work area in laboratories with limited space. Intended for the laminar flow manipulation of microorganisms with biological risk levels 2 and 3, the new range of Telstar Bio II Advance cabinets offers an ergonomic design that adapts easily to small spaces, especially in laboratories with low ceilings and where various pieces of equipment need to be used in the same area. With all the features of a high-end cabinet, the Bio II Advance is designed to protect the user, the sample and the environment, and is notable for its reduced external dimensions while maintaining an optimum inner workspace. With a width of 759mm, the height of the Bio II Advance is up to 20% less than the market average.
The Bio II Advance also incorporates improvements in airflow efficiency. The reduction of the air path in an optimised plenum, combined with automatic microprocessor control, keeps the laminar flow constant and avoids energy loss, reducing heat dissipation and extending the useful life of the filter. As for energy efficiency, this range of cabinets has an Eco Mode function, whereby the cabinet can be put on standby, which keeps the sample protected inside the cabinet while the user performs other tasks, saving energy, reducing residual heat and prolonging the useful life of the filters. Finally, in this range of biosafety cabinets, Telstar has incorporated the 4F system (Fast, Friendly and eFFicient), a patented system that makes it possible to replace the filter in just five minutes thanks to quick access via the front of the cabinet.

Autoclave Range Wins the Space Race
New Improved UV Sterilisation Cabinet
The new GLE-UVSC UV Sterilisation cabinet from Scie-Plas is an essential item for every molecular biology laboratory carrying out PCR®
reactions. The cabinet provides
decontamination of reagents and equipment before carrying out sensitive PCR® reactions, particularly when amplifying DNA sequences which are either in limited supply or of low copy number. Four timer-controlled 15-Watt UV bulbs enable the user to control the exposure time and dose of high energy UV irradiation required to denature nucleic acids that cause unwanted background contamination.
A timer override switch allows the UV source to remain on indefinitely if preferred. Safety interlocks switch-off the bulbs automatically when the cabinet doors are opened, preventing accidental exposure to the UV source.
The cabinet's construction from UV-impermeable 10mm acrylic also serves as an effective barrier against radioactive isotopes, allowing the user to work in complete safety with high energy beta-emitters such as 32P. A single white light bulb illuminates the work area when the cabinet is in use. It now comes with universal power input as standard.

Making your Chemistry Even Safer
Astell have solved the eternal problem of how to double a laboratory’s autoclave capacity without increasing the equipment footprint. Their new Duaclave range combines two identical chambers, one directly above the other within one frame. The two chambers come equipped with all the features that Astell users have come to expect like delayed start, allowing sterilisation to take place overnight, Holdwarm capability to maintain the autoclave at a pre-set temperature after sterilisation until required and data archiving to ensure that all cycle details are automatically recorded and saved.
The two chambers are fully independent and each has its own Logi control system accessed via a full colour, icon-driven touch screen with password protected security. This means that, for example, while one chamber may be processing fluids, the other can either be sitting idle or perhaps completing a discard load.
The range includes both electrically heated and direct steam heated models, and options include load sensed process timing and assisted cooling.
As with all Astell autoclaves and sterilisers, the Duaclave range is CE marked and manufactured to comply with the Pressure Equipment Directive PD97/23/EC, the Medical Devices Directive MDD 93/42/EEC and all other applicable UK and international standards. Full IQ and OQ documentation is available for all models. Astell Duaclave autoclaves are available in 33, 43, 63, 120 and 153 litre chamber sizes to suit most laboratory applications including sterilisation of reagents and media, glassware, laboratory instruments and discard.

Radleys are pleased to announce the launch of a range of PTFE Safety Covers for their market leading Heat-On Blocks.
Heat-On is the safe, clean and efficient alternative to messy oil baths for heating and stirring round bottom flasks from 10ml to 5 litres. The PTFE covers are designed to reduce the risk of users touching the ‘hot’ Heat-On block and cut-down on energy consumption.
Manufactured from solid PTFE, the Safety Covers fit easily over existing Heat- On Blocks, providing an insulated barrier between the user and the ‘hot’ block, reducing the temperature of exposed surfaces by as much as 50%. The excellent thermal properties of the PTFE also mean that up to 15% less energy is required to maintain temperatures for extended periods.
The chemically resistant covers also form a barrier between the hot surface of the Heat-On Block and any accidentally spilt solvent or chemicals, reducing spitting of hot liquids and chemical attack. The non-stick nature of PTFE also allows the covers to be easily wiped clean. The PTFE Safety Covers are available for the popular Multi-Well, 200ml, 300ml, 500ml and 1 litre Heat-On Blocks.
