sign for Blackpool Sands. The RNLI recommended template

combines colour symbols and text to create a visual impact to hold the reader’s attention. On the previous page is the sign we designed, in collaboration with Dart Harbour, which is being displayed at 12 various launch sites along the Dart, including Totnes, Stoke Gabriel,

This role will help us save lives at sea by promoting RNLI community safety messages to local target audiences in the RNLI’s bid to reduce the number of preventable deaths and incidents that occur within the local coast and inland water- way environment. Community safety provides

free education and advice and facilitates other interventions through Community Lifesaving Plans. The Community Safety Adviser is a public facing role as you will be going out and delivering the RNLI community safety advice directly to members of the community. Whilst other members of the team will be designing the Community Lifesaving Plan, which is aimed at reducing fatalities and serious incidents, and targeting particular

Dittisham and Dartmouth. As restrictions become eased in 2021 our Community Safety Team plans to go ahead with life jacket clinics, restart ‘advice on board’ and group safety presentations, once these are allowed. We will be monitoring events taking place in Dartmouth to maximise opportunities to interact with the

‘at risk’ groups, we are asking for advisers to provide that face-to- face intervention. This is a great role for somebody

This is a great role for somebody who has

VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY SAFETY ADVISOR – DART RNLI

will be important and, whilst it would be desirable to have some knowledge of coastal activity, this is by no means a requirement to be considered for this role. If you would like to join a

friendly, dedicated and motivated team and fit the criteria above, or have some of the required skills and would like to develop further in this area, we would like to hear from you. Training will be provided to ensure a full knowledge of the RNLI and in particular the work of the Community Safety Team.

Please contact Rowena Verity RNLI Community Safety Officer Dart RNLI if you would like to know more about this role on 07753 370122 or email rowena_verity@rnli.org.uk

JAMES HESTER- NETWORK YACHT BROKERS DARTMOUTH RIVER THAMES ODYSSEY FUNDRAISER FOR THE DART LIFEBOAT Having moved to Dartmouth last July James Hester has been busy getting involved in Dart life, especially life on the water. He has brought his boat round from the Yealm to the Dart and begun sea kayaking in and around the river. In October, James acquired the Noss-based business, Network Yacht Brokers.

James’s business works closely with seafarers and so it values the work of the RNLI and the Dart team in particular. To support them James has challenged himself to travel the entire 185-mile length of the Thames in July from its source in the Cotswolds all the way to central London – initially on foot, then onwards by kayak. It will involve negotiating about 45 locks and a lot of rough camping but James is hoping to have the backing of the local town and marine communities as he faces up to the challenge.
