HB2U, HB2U, HBDRBtD, HB2U 100 issues and counting. Congratulations. And Around Kingswear is a mere 91!

The KIngswear Neighbourhood

Plan The residents of Kingswear have given overwhelming support to their Neighbourhood Plan. 87% of people who voted supported the plan. The referendum held on the 6th May 2021 results were 398 YES votes and 61 NO votes. This means the plan has now been ‘made’ by SHDC and alongside their local plan it will be used in making planning decisions within the Parish. The plan period lasts until 2034 and is the culmination of five years of work. The steering group would like to thank all residents who have participated in this process and who voted in the referendum. The full plan can be viewed on the parish council website.

FroST Hedge Fund Recently there has been a new

hedge planted close to the church in order to stop people plummeting from the Memorial Garden down on to the road. While this hedge gets established some paling fence has been added. The Friends of St Thomas’s have been raising funds to help pay for this needful improvement and on Saturday 22nd May they held a plant, book and jewellery sale at the church and in the village hall (because of the Great Rains!). These sales raised a total of £376 of which it is proposed to send £188 to Christian Aid and £188 is to be kept by FroST.

At the same time FroST

presented a cheque for £2,000 to Kingswear Parish Council towards the cost of the hedge and fence. So perhaps Kingswear is turning in to a place where you can sit on the fence and count your hedge fund at the same time. (Sorry, it had to be done!)

group had a very successful AGM and barbeque at the Orchard on Wednesday evening the 19th May. Hopefully everyone will have seen the Orchard as it has taken shape at the end of Jubilee Park. Weeding, digging, mowing etc. may not be things all residents are keen to do BUT if you appreciate this lovely facility for the village perhaps you may consider becoming a non- working supporter of the volunteer group. A membership fee of just £10 a year would help to support the Orchard and keep the future development of this valuable community asset secure. We have a 99 year lease and exciting ideas for development. Please email kingswearorchard@gmail.com for details of how to contribute. New working members of the volunteer group are, of course, always very welcome. For further information about the orchard visit the website www.kingswearorchard.org.uk or see the Facebook page Kingswear Community Orchard. Thank you.
