Off leash, out of the sun, and one doggone great paw-ty. On Sunday, July 9th, Tampa’s Pour House was host to a gathering of furry friends in celebration of Benny’s first year. 15 pups of all sizes showed up to have fun in the cool pub, while the parents got to have VIP access to cold draft beer. Pour House was kind enough to open two hours early to have a Sunday fun-day like no other. Benny’s mom Kasey and friend Rachel prepared snacks, dips, and even a doggie cake for the birthday boy. A dog themed playlist jammed in surround sound as friends got to watch their pups have a great time amongst their best friends.

Inaugural Canine Film Festival. Three dog-loving women set out with big aspirations for this July 15 and 16 event. Organizers Laly Albalate, Lory Nelson Brunner, and Karen Landrum celebrated the devotion of dogs and those who love them, while escaping the sum- mer heat in a chilled movie theater. The festival opened with a Red Carpet Canine Spotlight and plenty of pawparazzi. Lucky dogs (accompanied by their owners) enjoyed a day at the movies, at Cinepolis, Coconut Grove. Unique relationships, lives, humor and experiences were docu-
mented in 103 entries (short films) from around the world, narrowed down to the top 25 featured films, which were screened at the festi- val. Dogs barked, people cheered and clapped, and popcorn was glad- ly shared. The following day, the Holly-woof after-party was held at Hotel

Indigo. Not to be left out, canines feasted on selections prepared by Chefs Laly and Eddie of the Doggie Bag Café. “The purpose behind the Canine Film Festival was to raise funds
for local rescues and shelters in South Florida, while showcasing the love and relationships of our beloved pets and their owners,” said Albalate. A percentage of tickets sold benefited Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida, South Florida Fund for Retired K9 Law Enforcement Officers, Humane Society Greater Miami, Redland Rockpit Abandoned Dog Project, Cattorneys @ Paw Benefit, The Cat Network Spay Day Support, Paw Patrol Rescue and the Miami Veterinary Foundation. Channel 10’s SoFlo Taste’s Melinda Harper, Glen Eklund, and
Hunter Franqui, along with Xiomara Gonzalez Govea of Animales 360/Univision TV served as celebri-judges.
