One day, still determined to repay his first teacher, Dr. Todd asked him why he would not accept payment of any kind. Dr. Sullivan explained to Dr. Todd that many years prior, he too had been introduced and instructed on the use of herbs and medicine that would lead him to practice TCM. Sullivan’s first teacher would not accept any kind of payment, instead instructing him to, someday, share the knowledge he had learned. “I have been blessed to be able to share my knowledge with someone so willing to receive it,” Dr. Sullivan said to Dr. Todd. “And now you are passing along your knowledge to oth- ers.” And with that, he simply changed the subject. When we spoke with Dr. Sullivan, he
recalled a veterinary experience that Dr. Todd shared with him, years ago. “Greg had been consulting with the Clearwater Aquarium on the injuries of Winter the dolphin,” Dr. Sullivan said. “He called and invited me to come to the Aquarium with him. I remember it was the Saturday before Christmas. Of course, I said yes. When we arrived and met in the science center, everyone had already donned their swimsuits and jumped in the water to begin their work with Winter. I said, ‘wait a minute, no one said anything about get- ting in the water.’ I hadn’t come prepared to do so. Luckily, someone loaned me an extra pair of trunks. The opportunity to be with the dolphin was something I will never forget; the strength and power of that animal. I am forever grateful to Greg’s generosity and kindness for inviting me to be part of that session,” Dr. Sullivan added. The two doctors still get together at least
once a month to catch up and discuss cases. “I enjoy hearing about Greg’s successes. It is so richly deserved,” said Dr. Sullivan.
