The Halifax Humane Society hosted their 7th Annual Mutt Strut on Daytona Beach on Saturday, April 29. This is the only day of the year that dogs are allowed on the beach with more than 1500 people and their dogs participating. The event raised $46,778 for the shelter. Another successful fundraiser for the shelter is their annual Dog Park On Ice. The July 12 event took place at the Daytona Ice Arena. Their next scheduled skate will be January 10, 2018 with a Luau theme. Mutt Strut 2018 will be April 28. Halifax Humane Society. 386.274.4703.

Paws on Parole is a partnership pro- gram between Alachua County Animal Services and the Florida Department of Corrections Gainesville Work Camp. The program’s main goal is to increase the adoption and retention rates of selected dogs from Alachua County Animal Shelter. The program provides experience and education in dog care for inmates as well as training for the dogs prior to making them available for adoption. The two dogs shown here are graduates of the program and found their forever homes during an adoption event at Earth Pets Pet Market in Gainesville on July 22.
