“For God’s sake the woman’s

head and face were bashed in. We were in shock. As a consequence, he was set free,” said Sandra. The story caught the attention of comedian Elayne Boosler, an animal advocate and Boxer lover herself. She person- ally contacted Sandra, all those years ago, and the Fleischmans have remained friends with her ever since. Elayne has helped Florida Boxer Rescue by promoting them on her social media pages and helping to raise money in times of need. Coco, the problem puppy, ended up being a wonderful family

dog and Sandra’s protector. She will always love Boxers for their playful personalities. “They never really grow up,” she said. “And they’re great with kids.” The happiest couples seem never to have the same character. They

just have the best understanding of their differences. Even though she said she’s stepping back some from animal rescue, her heart will always be in it. “With Sandra’s determination and compassion, I understand the

strong pull rescue has on her,” said Sol. “I realize she’ll probably never completely walk away from it. I’m just hoping she wants to share a little more of her time with me now, after all these years of taking care of dogs.” Through Florida Boxer Rescue, Sandra has been able to guide people to other rescue groups looking to re-home a dog or find a

specific breed. “Florida Boxer Rescue never, ever turns away from a dog in need. Just because we can’t bring it into our group doesn’t mean we won’t assist whoever calls about a dog in distress. We have helped find homes for Mastiffs, a Cavalier King Charles, a Chihuahua, a Walker Hound and more mixes than I can remember,” said Sandra. “We have an unbelievable group of dedicated volunteers. That’s how I’ve lasted this long. I couldn’t

have done it without them.” As far as Sol and dogs go, after 33 years of marriage? “He loves

them,” said Sandra. In fact, as a principle with Fleischman Garcia Architecture, Sandra points out that Sol was the only member of the firm who posed with his dog on the company’s website. “Yep, it’s true. I can’t imagine life without them,” he added.
