Marketing Manager, Nicky Severn and Senior Key Accounts Manager, Pete Greig meeting the ‘Up for the Cup’ Mascot at Northampton University CAWLEYS IS ‘UP FOR THE CUP’

Recycling and resource management company, Cawleys, have been chosen to close the loop in Northampton’s new recycling initiative ‘Up For The Cup’. The project is part of a national environmental campaign which aims to recycle as many disposable paper cups as possible. Northampton’s ‘Up For The Cup’ initiative aims to recycle over 160,000 cups in Northampton, and change people’s attitudes towards recycling. Currently only a small percentage of lined cups are recycled because they need to be collected

separately from other waste streams so the special plastic lining that keeps liquids secure can be separated from the cups’ outer layer. Cawleys will collect the segregated cups from

the ‘Up For The Cup’ scheme and transport them to an appropriate cup recycling centre. Segregation is extremely important in

preventing contamination and, as such, the project’s eye-catching ‘Up for the Cup’ bins have been designed to encourage consumers to ‘sip and separate’ liquids and lids from cups. The bins have been situated at strategic locations

across Northampton, including the University of Northampton, The Royal & Derngate and the Grosvenor Shopping Centre. Cawleys customer services director Anna

Cawley said: “We’ve long been advocates of improving drink-cup recycling rates and we currently collect cups at a number of clients’ premises. “However, we believe the public need to be

made more aware of the importance of segregating their cups and placing them in the correct bins – thankfully this campaign does just that.”

LAW FIRM ASSISTS WITH CARE PACKAGES

A charity distributed more than 1,700 gifts to adults in hospital receiving cancer treatment – prior to social distancing - thanks to a leading commercial law firm. Northampton-based The Lewis

Foundation sources, packages and hand delivers free gifts and support packs to adult patients in hospital every week to make sure they can access items they may find difficult

to buy themselves or simply cannot afford. Law firm Howes Percival selected

the organisation as its Charity of the Year 2018-19 and throughout the year it supported The Lewis Foundation through fundraising, supporting events and holding collection drives for items. Over the year it raised more than £6,000 for the charity, enabling

The Lewis Foundation to fund 1,715 gifts packs for adults having cancer treatment in hospital. Lorraine Lewis, of The Lewis

Foundation, said: “It is fantastic to have the support of a local community, who have worked so hard and been so supportive over the last year in helping us to make a difference. “We were blown away by the

final total as we know it will be of great benefit to people in hospital who receive our gift packs.” The charity currently provides

over 2,500 gifts to adults to hospitals in Northamptonshire, Bedford, Leicester, Milton Keynes and Luton.
