FACTFILE: THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHAMPTON


BACKGROUND: The origins of the University of Northampton date back to the 13th century. University College Northampton was formed in 1999 following the amalgamation of a number of training colleges. The University of Northampton was then established in 2005 when it was awarded full university status and research degree awarding powers.


DESCRIPTION: The University of Northampton is a higher education establishment in Northampton which offers students a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The university has been awarded Gold – the highest possible mark – in the Government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). The TEF is a league table where universities, colleges and private providers are judged on the quality of the education they provide. The University of Northampton is one of only 43 universities in the UK to have achieved Gold. The university is also a patron of Next Generation Chamber.
