CORTEXA BUILDS A BESPOKE LMS

A leading provider of e-learning and Learning Management Systems (LMS) has been working with one of the giants of the building industry. Cortexa, based in Great

Doddington, creates and manages LMS sites, elearning courses and provides an inhouse production team to shoot videos for businesses. One of its most recent clients is

builders’ merchants Travis Perkins, which has more than 20 businesses in its group and employs more than 30,000 staff. Managing director Mark Parrish

said: “Travis Perkins’ LEAP initiative is an apprenticeship style programme commitment to an approach of ‘learn and earn’. “They already had an existing

Learning Management System, however the complexity of the interface and wide variety of installed courses were considered an obstacle to its adoption within the apprenticeship programme. “We had been working with

existing partners at Builders Merchant Federation and had coincidentally just launched a merchant training programme entitled ‘BMF Building Blocks’. “Fortunately, for Travis Perkins

the first project aim was to provide apprentices and new starters with a solid foundation of product knowledge. During in depth LMS discussions with the firm it quickly became obvious that our new course content hosted on a dedicated Totara LMS would provide the ideal solution.” Travis Perkins signed off on the

project and over 500 apprentices are expected to complete their foundation training via this new LMS.

EXCITING TIMES ARE AHEAD AT HISTORIC ABBEY

New plans, projects and events are in the pipeline for Delapré Abbey – with the Trust announcing the appointment of its new chief executive. Richard Clinton, whose previous roles include operations

director at the Royal & Derngate and more recently operations and customer care director for The Culture Trust Luton, is taking up the helm from 1 April. Rachael Boyd, who has held the role at Delapré Abbey

Preservation Trust for four years, is moving on to take up a position as director of The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Steve Edmonds, chair of the trustees, said: “We want to thank Rachael, who joined us in the midst of our multi-million-pound restoration, and whose passion and determination proved critical in overcoming the many challenges that we inevitably faced in

restoring and opening such an historic building. Rachael has led the team with great enthusiasm and expertise and Delapré’s varied programme of events and attractions has been enjoyed by many thousands each year. We’re now delighted to welcome Richard to the team, whose experience in culture and heritage marks an exciting new future.” Richard added: "I’m really proud to be taking on this opportunity, returning to a place I consider my hometown – where I still live - and am looking forward to being part of the Trust’s exciting future. “We want to work closely with the

local community – and encourage friends and families to enjoy the grounds, celebrate our rich local heritage, share our facilities, join us and enjoy all our events and be part of our future projects.”
