Productive start to 2020 for Town Council

Gracechurch boss is named new BID chair


Sutton Coldfield Town Centre’s Business Improvement District (BID) has appointed Angela Henderson, centre manager at the Gracechurch Centre, as its chair. Angela, previously vice chairman of the BID,


has taken over from Stephen Roberts, founding director at Robson Lister Wealth Management, who held the role since 2017. Angela has managed the Gracechurch Centre


since summer 2016 and brings more than 26 years’ experience of working in a retail environment. Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID has also


welcomed three new members – David Hemming of Burley Browne, Mark Harris of Mark Harris Accountants and Stephen Nixon of Enoch Evans.


Mike Bushell, BID manager, said: “Since joining


the BID team in 2016, Angela’s commitment to Sutton Coldfield has been paramount, and we’re certain she will further continue to play a vital role in shaping the future of the town centre. “We would like to extend a big thank you to


Stephen for his continued hard work and dedication to the BID.” Angela added: “My role as centre manager at


the Gracechurch Centre has allowed me to build strong links to the local business community, and I look forward to working even more closely with the board to continue Stephen’s hard work in developing Sutton Coldfield’s vibrant and varied offering.”


Sutton heads for the silver screen


Ark Media has hit the big screen – after producing a new nail-biting thriller ‘Stalked’. The film, shot at locations across the Midlands,


follows the story of former Royal Marine commando and single mother, Sam, who is brutally kidnapped on her way to the pharmacy to buy medicine for her baby daughter. She wakes up disoriented in


what seems to be a deserted military factory. Worried that she has left her


baby alone at home, she hurries to find a way out but all exits have been sealed. She soon realises that she is not alone – someone or something is preying on her. Stalked and attacked by an invisible foe, she


must use all of her military skills and knowledge to survive this deadly game of cat and mouse. The warehouse where much of the indoor filming took place is based in Leamington and most of the outdoor scenes were shot in Sutton Park. Phil Arkinstall (pictured), managing director at Ark Media said: “I was born and bred in Sutton Coldfield and am sure anyone familiar with Sutton Park will likely recognise many of the


outdoor scenes.” ‘Stalked’ has been sold to a number of international markets including Hong,


LA, Berlin and the Middle East. It was released on Virgin, Amazon and iTunes

The first few weeks of 2020 have been very productive with the launch our Strategic Plan for 2020 – 2023. Now available on our website, this document sets out our areas of focus over the next four years and will guide our decision- making. We know from our 2019 consultation that the seven priorities outlined in the plan are what matter most to those who live and work in our Royal Town. Our focus throughout February is on one


of the key elements of the Strategic Plan - the future of our town centre. I am really pleased the Town Council is leading on this challenging project through the Town Centre Regeneration Partnership, which brings together Birmingham City Council, town centre land owners, Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, West Midlands Combined Authority, key community groups, Greater Birmingham Chambers, Sutton Coldfield Business Improvement District and Transport for West Midlands. The first stage of the £150,000 town


centre masterplan began in November 2019 and will set out an inspirational vision to reinvent our town centre. We’re now entering into a period of public engagement and our specialist urban design and planning experts Tibbalds CampbellReith are preparing to host drop- in sessions for residents and businesses over the coming weeks, with an opportunity to share views and aspirations for our town centre. Like so many other town centres we face real and urgent challenges as the retail landscape changes. We have a massive opportunity to restore


the fortunes of our town centre. Royal Sutton Coldfield is a great place to live and work and we are determined that your town centre, just like the rest of your town will enjoy a bright future. I would urge residents and businesses to get involved over the coming weeks.
