Portland Pathways paves the way to successful futures

Portland College has made significant investment in a new innovative programme called Portland Pathways. Using charitable funding, the

programme is delivered in the community from two local hubs on Outram Street (Sutton-in-Ashfield) and Regent Street (Mansfield). It provides people and businesses with free guidance and training to improve employment prospects for disabled people locally. Launched in 2018 with a focus on

reducing the disability employment gap in Mansfield and Ashfield, this unique roll-on, roll-off service encourages people to excel. It has already supported 77 people into work, helping both individuals and local employers find that right fit and offers in-work support to both employers and individuals which can also continue while in employment. Portland Pathways focuses on

what a person can do rather than what they can't, offering support to overcome multiple barriers, not always work related. The staff help build confidence, showing people

that they can move forward. Every person is different and the Service supports people to work at their own pace, offering tailored, one-to- one support. It is already a double-award-

winner of two local awards and the programme was recently a finalist for the Chamber’s Community Impact Award at its Nottinghamshire Business Awards.

The three pathways which help

individuals and employers contribute to a more inclusive workforce are Preparing for Work; Recovery College and Support for Employers. Nikki Amirsaeedi, Portland

Pathways Employment Projects Manager, said: “We are extremely proud of the work we do here at Portland Pathways. We have already made such a difference to

the lives of many community members by making the transition into employment more accessible. “Our clients are keen to enter

into sustainable employment, to build a positive future for themselves and to make a difference. We are here to help open doors for them and to make sure they are matched to roles that meet their skills and interests.”
