MONKEY WORLD, the internaonallyacclaimed rescue centre, opened in 1987 to provide a home for nine abused Spanish beach chimpanzees. Now, it is home to over 250 primates of more than 20 dierent species. Many have been neglected, kept in unnatural condions, or experienced unbelievable cruelty. At Monkey World, they can all enjoy the company of their own kind in a safe and natural environment, and some are even part of internaonal breeding programmes for endangered species. Combining fun with conservaon, halfhourly keeper talks at the park explain all about man’s closest living relave. Visitors can see the stars of TV’s ‘Monkey Life’, then ‘monkey around’ in the south’s largest Great Ape play area. There are several food outlets available at the park, or visitors are welcome to bring a picnic and enjoy lunch in the beauful surroundings. For more details, please go to: www.monkeyworld.org, email apes@monkeyworld.org or call 01929 462537

Near to the Quay the PURBECK INFORMATION AND HERITAGE CENTRE hosts a mine of visitor information. At the main cross-roads there is the small but fascinating Town Museum with an interesting section on T. E. Lawrence works.

The Saxon walls that still surround the town are an interesting walk.

A highlight of the walks is the church of St Martins which contains early medieval wall paintings and an effigy of Lawrence of Arabia.
