Truro is strategically situated having a good road and rail network makes it easy to travel to almost every part of the county and is Cornwall’s main area of tourism. Complimented by the beautiful Cornish countryside, Truro offers more than enough to all who come to visit. Take an interesting walk through the open squares, streets and gardens of the city, but take care to avoid the 19th century water-carrying granite gutters.


Look out for the medieval Celtic Cross perched high on a granite pillar to mark the way for pilgrims and travellers. Follow the riverside walk along the River Allen at the mill pool for the corn mill that was here in 16th and 17th centuries. This area with its ancient heritage and remarkable rock formations it is difficult not to feel a sense of awe and wonder at the fascinating landscapes and coastal views. Here there is smuggling and wrecking history with tales of murder and deception.


This is also home to the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site where there are examples of yesteryear. There is the Minack Theatre carved into the cliffs, and Mounts Bay (Penzance) with the medieval castle of St Michaels Mount and the fishing villages of Newlyn and Mousehole where centuries of fishermen have braved the unpredictable English Channel, their tales are fascinating. There is something for everyone in West Cornwall.


Falmouth is the centre for visiting the scenic waterways of the Garrick Roads, the Helford and Fal Rivers and the many tributaries of these interesting rivers.


To appreciate this part of Cornwall a boat trip to experience these rivers is an essential part of an itinerary. Trips can be obtained at the Prince of Wales Pier. Some of the more interesting places to visit are: Truro Cathedral completed in 1910 the walls are made of Cornish granite and the statues are carved in Bath stone.


Visitors can tour the cathedral and its property. The Royal Cornwall Museum has collections of art and artefacts and other pieces that represent the history of Cornwall, also collections of pottery, the Rashleigh mineral collection, natural history exhibits, paintings done by the locals and also some well-known Cornish artist. Throughout the year the museum plays host to visiting exhibitions. Coinage Hall is where smelted tin was tested and analysed in the 14th century, and then stamped before it was sold and exported at the coinage hall. City Hall is of 19th century Italianate design adorned with a clock that was donated by an anonymous donor shortly after the original clock tower was destroyed by fire in 1914. Passmore Edwards Library features the three coats of arms sculptured into the façade which shows the crest of the Prince of Wales, Cornwall, and the city of Truro. For the daring and sports minded visit TRURO PAINTBALL located at Nansavallan Farm just outside of the city.


Falmouth has Blue Flag beaches and a bustling town centre with wide range of shops, also superb cafes and restaurants. More reasons to visit are the watersports including sailing, diving, surfing, gig rowing, kayaking also the popular golf course overlooking Falmouth Bay.
