Brixham Harbour

Brixham A rapidly rising star in the West Country firmament, the traditional fishing harbour of Brixham is buzzing from early in the morning when the fish auctions are held, until late in the evening when seafood restaurants are filled with jolly diners and sea shanties can be heard in the local hostelries.

This is traditional England at its best.

Brixham is a must to visit on any tour of the South West, particularly for foodies who can taste what is probably the freshest, biggest selection and highest quality of fish in the region.

Brixham’s Award-Winning Fish Market Tours were voted into Visit England’s top 101 Things To Do Before You Go Abroad list and there is a great selection of reasonably priced seafood restaurants and eateries around the harbour. Like Rockfish, Beamers & Verna’s Pepper Shack.

Many festivals and events take place during the year in Brixham including the famous annual Pirate Festival and there are endless tales of smugglers and pirates to be unearthed.

The fishing trawlers, which were invented in Brixham

during the 19th century, share the harbour with a replica of Sir Francis Drake's ship, the Golden Hind, a popular tourist attraction.

The nearby statue of William of Orange is another hint to the rich and diverse history the town boasts and Ghost Walks are available from dusk.

One of the best ways to experience Brixham is to take one of the many boat and fishing trips with Kelly’s Hero Charters.

Just above Brixham is the Berry Head National Nature Reserve, an internationally acclaimed heritage site with recently restored Napoleonic-War fortifications. Berry Head towers 60 metres (200 feet) above the English Channel and is the second most southerly point on the English mainland, creating a regular bird rarity and migration hot spot.

The cliffs are host to the largest breeding colonies of guillemots on the south coast of England. It’s free to visit and there is an excellent restaurant and visitor centre.

Goodrington Sands is nearby and home to an exhilarating water-park, several caravan holiday parks and the Seashore Centre which offers information about the UNESCO Global Geopark and organises rock pool safaris.

Enjoy a relaxing bird watching trip or an awesome fishing charter with KELLY'S HERO CHARTERS we make sure that you have the time of your life. Depart from Western Lady Ferry steps on the north side of the harbour. Trip lengths 2, 4, 6 or 8 hours - licensed for 10 passengers. Call 07970 642354 or 07974 002462
