Cornwall’s largest resort is Newquay. With seven stunning beaches, there is one for everyone’s taste. Should the beach, swimming or surfing not suit then don a wetsuit and dive beneath the waves to glimpse an age old shipwreck or reef teeming with plant and animal life. At the harbour there are a plethora of boats to take you on the water, craft to hire, or on the beaches there is everything required for sport. Newquay and its surrounds have a great variety of attractions and events from international surfing competitions, real ale weekends to food festivals. Music concerts and crashes, the famous Run to the Sun, firework and the Red Arrows displays, polo on the beach, theatre, a zoo, an aquarium, riding stables, soft play arena and much more. There’s something going on all year round to entertain. The resort is the place to be when the sun sets, from bars and traditional pubs, to beachside cafes and nightclubs, an intimate pavement cafe or one of the many live music venues. For scenery there are cliff-top bars and cafes. When the crowds are gone, Newquay is a great short break destination with cliff top walks, or the views that encompass the Gannel Estuary, Fistral Beach, Pentire Headland, Towan Head and the north Cornwall coast. Just outside of Newquay there is the award winning DAIRY LAND FARM WORLD attraction. Watergate Bay has one of the most spectacular expanses of beach in the whole of Cornwall, there is a beach cafe, parking, and dogs are permitted. At low tide there are good walks in both directions north to Mawgan Porth, Bedruthan Steps, and Constantine, and south to Newquay.
Next up the coast is Mawgan Porth with acres of soft white sand, rock pools, caves and magical sunsets. This beach is just five miles to the north of Newquay and an hour from St Ives, which makes it ideal for those who want a quiet holiday. There are several places to eat close to the beach and dogs are permitted.
