The quaint village of Drewsteignton, with its thatched houses, lies above the Teign Gorge are all close for nature lovers, wildlife such as deer, fish, otters, herons, dippers, squirrels, salmon and brown trout abound and for cyclists, the rugged paths of Fingle Gorge are challenging. To help you to enjoy the area, try the unique Fingle Bridge Inn.
At the gift shop and plant centre there is wide range of plants and gifts for every occasion. Nearby, are the villages and hamlets of Whiddon Down, with great walks; Easton has the well known Easton Park Hotel; Cheriton Bishop is two miles south and home to the Old Thatched Inn.
Towards the village of Dunsford is Great Fulford House which is open to the public. Dunsford has won the Large Village section of the Best Kept Village, the pub here is the Royal Oak.
Bridford is near the beauty spot of Steps Bridge, with Heltor Rock woodland paths and open countryside. The Bridford Inn has food and the Walled Garden restaurant offers Devon cream teas.
This town is excellent for visitors as it is the largest in West Devon, with a wide range of interesting and practical shops, a pannier market, riverside park, leisure centre and theatre.
It is a good base for exploring the surrounding beautiful countryside, the wild Dartmoor scenery, the many nearby pretty villages of Devon and Eastern Cornwall, and a variety of National Trust properties.

There are B&B venues, a campsite, two pubs and a small range of shops. Yelverton is another gateway to Dartmoor, and with good road links to Plymouth and Tavistock, is probably one of the best places to choose as a base for touring west Devon.

Situated just five minutes from the town centre, between the River Tavy and the canal, are the Meadows, this beautiful and peaceful park is a tranquil haven with attractive walks, and a children’s play area.
Other things to do are: a walk on Whitstone Common, or follow the Tavy’s upper reaches to Dartmoor and the delightful villages of Peter Tavy and Mary Tavy, with their imposing churches and the character inns of the Peter Tavy Inn and Mary Tavy Inn, both of which have rooms and extremely good food.

Should you be visiting in October, or want to have a special DAY OUT in the autumn, the Tavistock Goose Fair is held on the second Wednesday of October.
Fairground rides run all week and on fair day, the town comes alive with stalls and side shows, attracting thousands of visitors. A mile or so downstream of Tavistock, the River Tavy is joined by the River Walkham. Here there are the woods at Double Waters, and the beauty spot at Denham Bridge, where there is an old packhorse bridge.
The River Tavy meets the sea at Lopwell Dam itself, a pleasant spot for a stroll or a picnic.
Take a walk in Lydford Gorge to see the White Lady Waterfall and the colours of the flora. Just four miles west is the historic port, village, copper mine and railway at Morwellham Quay. Horrabridge is on the banks of the River Walkham and being on the Drakes Cycle Trail, is ideally located for those who love walking, riding, cycling, fishing or EXPLORING.
Attractions include: Buckland Abbey and The Garden House at nearby Buckland Monachorum. Near Yelverton is the riverside village of Bere Ferrers. In this delightful small village there are boat trips, water sports and much more.
Also, this is home to the Tamar Belle Railway Heritage Centre located at the local railway station. To visit a mystery well with a surprise for visitors, go to Walkhampton and at nearby Sheepstor is one of Dartmoor’s most imposing Tors.
The Walkhampton Inn ensures that visitors are well fed. Also in the area the Burrator Reservoir is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders due to its footpaths and bridleways.
Many of the trails lead on to Dartmoor so it makes an ideal starting point for longer trips.
At nearby Shaugh Prior there is the beauty spot of Plym Valley, with Shaugh Prior Bridge and Plymvalley Woods, the cycle Route 27 goes through the woods, and the local White Thorn Inn has an excellent reputation for food.
