Advanced supercar rolls into Derby


Chamber member Pentaxia has welcomed the BAC Mono R to its Alfreton Road site, following its contribution to the production of the recently launched single- seater supercar. Briggs Automotive Company


(BAC) revealed the Mono R to the world at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed, in July. The Mono R serves as the New


Reference – the very pinnacle of design, innovation, engineering and performance in the automotive industry. Pentaxia was thrilled to work with BAC as the main


composite supplier for the Mono R. The Derby team worked closely


with the BAC designers and was actively involved in decisions on how the car should be manufactured, as it was the first in the world to use graphene- enhanced carbon fibre in every panel. Through this collaboration, BAC


was able to deliver a design that not only looked amazing and kept in line with the existing Mono DNA, but also contained an entirely new vehicle architecture with enhanced aerodynamics.

Goodwood, Pentaxia effectively had six weeks from final design confirmation to manufacture approximately 80% of the vehicle, ready for the big reveal. Pentaxia successfully worked to

Unique Rolls-Royce app can detect foreign object damage


Rolls-Royce has developed an innovative app which will allow users to track and record foreign object debris (FOD), a common cause of engine damage, straight from their smartphone. The first-of-a-kind research contract, awarded by the


United States Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and funded by the US Marine Corps, will help to avoid future FOD costs – potentially amounting to billions of dollars – and secures Rolls-Royce’s position as an essential provider of pioneering technology. The ground-breaking app enables Marines to report


FOD found across their sites more quickly and efficiently. Using a smart phone, users will be able to scan objects to capture high quality imagery, accurate GPS location and size which are then sent for analysis in a central database – moving the right data to the right user at the right time. The accessible and easy to use tool has been designed to maximise the number of users which will reduce paperwork and increase the effectiveness of FOD prevention activities. Goods must be more sustainable


Around half (53%) of UK consumers think producers and manufacturers are responsible for ensuring the goods they buy are environmentally-friendly. Research by Chamber


member KPMG found that over two-thirds (67%) of Brits say they care more about the environmental impact of the goods they buy today, compared to five years ago, but mainly feel it is the responsibility of manufacturers and producers to tackle the issue. In the poll of over 2,000
