‘Fab Four’ trekkers raise thousands for charity

A ‘Fab Four’ of determined fundraisers braved driving rain, biting winds, aching limbs and painful blisters on a gruelling 100- mile trek to raise cash for me&dee. Debbie Prince, a volunteer

fundraiser, undertook the mammoth challenge with colleagues to raise funds for the Derby-based charity, which provides seaside breaks to families facing a life-changing, life shortening or terminal medical condition. The charity, which is self-funding

and reliant on goodwill and events, needs to raise at least £70,000 each year to provide families facing short futures together with free holidays in two luxurious caravans, with huge decking and a private sea front beach hut, in Mablethorpe. Debbie, a long-standing

supporter of the charity, carries out various fundraising events throughout the year. This year, she has added to those

with an incredible challenge to walk 100 miles ‘From the sea, to me&dee’. Debbie’s challenge took place

over three days in June, where she, alongside team members Samantha Woodward, Laura Franks and Martyn Patrick, walked from the Lincolnshire coastal village to the Derby Conference Centre, where a welcome party was waiting for them. The walkers had to face the most

horrendous weather conditions while walking for 13 hours a day, covering 35 miles on each of the first two days and 30 miles on the final day.

Mablethorpe Town Crier David Summers leads the trek

Their support vehicles were

driven by Stuart Parris and Callum Almey, with Mablethorpe Town Crier David Summers offering further encouragement and Julie Limb providing massages and foot treatment. Debbie said: “I am an extremely

fit person, but the challenge pushed me to my limits physically and emotionally and I cannot put into words how in awe I am of my team members, walking with leg splints and feet taped-up to reach the end of our challenge. “But we did it. We did it for the me&dee charity. We came, we walked, we conquered.”

Maria Hanson, the unsalaried

CEO and founder of me&dee, said: “I don’t have enough words to convey the feelings I have for the four people who walked 100 miles for our charity. “They are so very inspirational,

they mean the world to us and I hope that the people of Derby will get behind them and donate to their page, or contact us at the office to donate to them.”

The ‘Fab Four’ take a well-earned break

Debbie and her team have raised more than £3,250 so far. If you would like to support them, visit www.justgiving.com/Debie- Prince1
