Broadstone Youth Club
It seems impossible to believe that we are approaching the end of another academic year, and that the young people and volunteers are thinking about the long summer holiday ahead.
We have got to know a fantastic new group of young people this year and whatever you might hear about teenagers, I can say from personal experience that the vast majority of the young people living around Broadstone are polite, respectful individuals who just want to enjoy themselves.
It has also been a joy to get to know around ten new volunteers this year, individuals who have given their time cheerfully and freely, whether it has been supervising sport, working behind the counter selling drinks and snacks and giving the young people a chance to open up about their lives, or planning crazy games and activities.
We are now seeing 150 children PER WEEK at the Club and we are on the cusp of further expansion. I have had several people prepared

to help us expand further by extending the club to children in Year 7, but in the move from Poole Council to BCP Council their email addresses and contact details have been mislaid. If you are interested in joining our team, please get in touch with me so we can try and launch the additional year group in September.
We are hoping to provide some training in mentoring young people and in a range of other skills over the summer months and in order to get DBS safeguarding checks done in time it would be great to talk to interested people before we break up for the summer, which will also give us a chance to show potential volunteers around the centre whilst it is at its best – full of young people and chatter!

Meeting The Queen “I received a phone call in January to
say I had been nominated and in April the invitation arrived – it seemed unreal!
I felt very humbled and honoured to have been invited to attend the Royal Garden Party for services to childcare (I have worked with children for over 40 years).
The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. There were thousands of guests outside the Palace gates, watching the Guardsmen on duty, waiting for the gates to open. Walking across the forecourt of the Palace and up the main staircase – where our Oueen and Queen Victoria have walked – was surreal. Then out onto the Terrace – the view was stunning.
Members of the Royal Household were welcoming everyone, afternoon tea was served and military bands were entertaining us.
The Yeoman of the Guards marched out and across the terrace walked the Queen, accompanied by Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge, Princes Andrew and Edward, the Countess of Wessex and many more. To be within 4ft of the Queen was amazing – what an incredible lady and role model she is to us all.”
