Name: Robin Norstrom

Company: The Galliard Apsley Partnership

Job Title: Director

What does your company do? Residential and mixed-use developments.

How did it all start? In Birmingham. Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital could see the fantastic transformation of the city and decided to team up in a joint venture partnership.

What’s your greatest achievement so far? My journey from Stockholm to Birmingham, via London and Berlin, has been beyond my expectations. If my wife is reading this then obviously meeting her and having my children.

What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken – and did it work out? Going from having a salary to not having a salary – and yes, it looks very positive.

What keeps you awake at night? Generally, my youngest child.

If you could turn the clock back, what would you do differently? I don’t regret anything, but I try to prioritise myself less now than I used to.

What has surprised you most in your job? I get to travel quite a lot – England is surprisingly beautiful.

What advice would you give to someone starting out? I would pass on the same advice that I had: It is more important who you are working for than where you are working.

Which business do you most admire? I admire the fact that no one throws away the Apple iPhone packaging, which says a lot about their success.

What exciting projects is your business working on? I’m very excited that the frame of our 379-apartment scheme Timber Yard in Southside is now going up and even more excited knowing that we have around 2,000 more residential units in our Birmingham pipeline.

What made you join Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and how are you making use of your membership? We opened an office on Colmore Row almost immediately, employing local staff. The Chamber of Commerce is a highly-respected business organisation and as a relative newcomer to Birmingham, joining its thriving membership felt like a good way for us to reach out and network with others businesses in the region.
