International Trade
International Business Hub
In Brief
Businesses that were part of a delegation to the Arab Health trade show came back with orders worth just under £90,000. And there is potentially up to £2.4m worth
of business to come to the Midlands during the next 12 months, according to Chamber international trade adviser Jane Matty, who was part of the delegation. Arab Health is the largest health care
exhibition in the Middle East, and the Chamber joined a delegation led by Midlands Engine. During the show, the team was able to exhibit some of the best Midlands’ health care innovations to an international audience, in the UK pavilion. Some 42 introductions were made prior to
the show, with buyers coming from UAE, Uganda, Bahrain, Maryland and further enquiries made directly to the 34 Midland delegates. Among delegates was Rizwan Qureshi from
Surgins, a Solihull-based surgical device company, who said: “This visit was helpful to understand the business culture in Middle East, network with relevant businesses, display innovative products and evaluate interested distributors across Middle East.”
The Chamber’s translations team has launched new language courses and cultural awareness training. The training will help companies and
organisations taking part in international business meetings. Amira Graham, head of the translation team,
said: “This is a gap in the market that we can support, with our experienced team tailoring exactly to the requirements of your business. “We have a unique approach, hosting
courses at Chamber House that can meet tight deadlines and tackle the complexities of technical language if required.”

A major airline’s corporate scheme has been deemed ‘advantageous’ to firms wishing to extend their international business connections. That was the opinion of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce’s (GBCC) international business hub development director Mandy Haque, who was commenting on Turkish Airlines’ exclusive scheme for corporate customers. Ms Haque met with Ceren Albayrak, corporate
sales and marketing executive at Turkish Airlines – which has a base at Birmingham Airport – to discuss how firms in Greater Birmingham could benefit from the airline’s Corporate Club. Turkish Airlines Corporate Club is an exclusive
scheme for business travellers, providing a range of perks for customers including extra baggage allowance, discounts on fares, flight flexibility, a Turkish Airlines Corporate Club card, car rental reservations, access to business class lounges and a help desk exclusively for its members. Turkish Airlines operates services to Istanbul,
Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Dubai, Johannesburg, Abu Dhabi, Tokyo, Beijing, Hong Kong, Bahrain and Singapore from Birmingham Airport. Ms Haque said the scheme provided a ‘range
of corporate benefits’ and was ‘advantageous’ for businesses which are looking to make connections and do business overseas. “Turkish Airlines Corporate Club is a must
have set of benefits that any business traveller, looking to expand or seek new opportunities in the East, should seriously consider,” she said. “The range of corporate benefits associated
with the Corporate Club is not only advantageous, but may also be essential to those business travellers looking for flexibility

while conducting international business. “Being able to be flexible and adapt while
making new international connections and securing new business is absolutely crucial in today’s international business environment. “We at the Chamber endorse any initiative,
scheme or tool that helps firms do business easily and successfully – this Corporate Club is the perfect example of a tool that can help businesses thrive.” Ms Albayrak said: “Turkish Airlines is thrilled to
bring its Corporate Club to businesses in the Greater Birmingham area. “We want to help business customers make
the most out of their business travel, saving them time and money in the process.”

Major ICT trade fair in Luxembourg
One of Europe’s largest and most international information and communications technology (ICT) conference and matchmaking events opens its doors next month. The event is the ICT Spring Fair in
Luxembourg (21/22 May), which will focus on providing an insight into the latest advances and innovations in the world of IT, and also matchmaking between businesses from all over Europe. The latter will be the focus of a special
‘b2fair’ matchmaking event, and Chamber- based Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) is inviting West Midlands companies to take part. B2fair is a combination of matchmaking
activities and trade fairs, and has been running
for more than 10 years. This year, it will feature more than 100 events, ranging from trade fairs and international congresses, attended by more than 25,000 businesses and organisations. Also attending the Spring Fair will
be investors such as venture capitalists, who will be advising firms about how to secure funding to
develop their businesses. Rupi Nandra (pictured), head of
international programmes at the Chamber,
said: “This is a great opportunity for West Midlands companies to get in front of dozens of businesses with whom they could form a strategic relationship.”
