Business News New patron has a hire purpose By Dan Harrison
A recruitment company, which is leading the fight against single- use plastic by adopting the natural resource of bamboo, has become a patron of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce. SF Recruitment has placed more
than 40,000 professionals throughout the region and counts Dragons Den’s James Caan among its investors. The Midlands’ leading specialist
recruiter has also just celebrated its 20th anniversary and undergone a rebrand, having previously been known as SF Group. As part of the rebrand and in line
with a new set of brand values, the firm pledged to scrap single-use plastic and use bamboo as an alternative, more sustainable resource. With offices in Birmingham,
Leicester and Nottingham, SF Recruitment has recruited for more than 12,000 clients, with a strong focus on the financial, HR, procurement, marketing and commercial sectors. Chief executive Saira Demmer
Planning for the future: Saira Demmer of SF Recruitment
said: “The Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce have been key partners of SF Recruitment as we have established ourselves as the leading specialist recruiter in Midlands. We’ve recently completed 20 years of operation, and over that time, we’ve become incredibly well connected in the region with thousands of businesses. “We wanted to formalise this by
finding more avenues for getting involved in the region’s business
Roundabouts fan puts new spin on bus pass campaign
A roundabout enthusiast from Birmingham has become the face of a new campaign led by National Express West Midlands. Kevin Beresford, who is the president of the
UK Roundabout Appreciation Society, has agreed to take part in the bus and coach operator’s new advertising campaign encouraging the use of senior citizens’ free bus passes. Mr Beresford, also a keen photographer, is
eager to endorse the bus passes and the many benefits they will bring. The Small Heath resident said: “This is a
labour of love for me. I’m a photographer, and I believe great art is found in mundane things. “Andy Warhol painted cans of soup; Tracey
Emin had her bed; even Van Gogh painted just a pipe on a chair. If you have imagination, the world’s your oyster.
“I take my camera everywhere, and having a
bus pass gives you freedom to jump off when something catches your eye. “Roundabouts are always interesting – you
can put anything on a roundabout. I’ve been filmed talking about roundabouts by crews from all over the world. “The French have the best roundabouts in the
world – my favourite is the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.” Kevin said bus travel can help put a smile on
people’s faces, adding: “Transport has a vital role to play in tackling loneliness and bringing people together. “Something as simple as a bus journey can
put a smile on someone’s face.” • More transport news on pages 72 and 73.

issues, particularly when it comes to people, as we know this is a key driver of success for many organisations. “Becoming a patron also felt like
the right move for us as we embark on a new strategy with a rejuvenated brand and a team of people that love working for us. “We’re now on the top table in
regards to the Birmingham business community, together with esteemed company, many of whom, we have supported over the past few years. “We are looking forward to
contributing and sharing our knowledge to help the city keep progressing forward at the rate it is.”
Patronage is GBCC’s top tier of membership, offering a limited number of companies the opportunity to connect with some of the most influential figures in Greater Birmingham. Each receives strategic support
tailored to their most pressing objectives, as well as gaining unrivalled access to the region’s highest profile business leaders and their networks. Paul Faulkner, chief executive of
GBCC, said: “We’re delighted to welcome SF Recruitment as our exclusive recruitment patron. “As a forward-thinking company
that places such a strong emphasis on people, it is fitting that they should join the powerful collective of leading businesses and forward- thinking organisations that form our patronage group.”
