Who built “Velocity?”... ...We did! R

ibquest Ltd have completed a major contract for a “bespoke” rib, that is effectively the

fastest “ribride” in the UK, probably in the world. Under new ownership, and moved to Kingsbridge, the contract with RibRide (www. ribride.co.uk), who operate on and around Anglesey, has been an exciting venture for the new Ribquest team.

The Ribquest brand is, of course, famous for its hulls, their quality and stability, but for this project, the team had to move the hull on to something more “speedy” since the contract specified a speed of 80mph (70 knots) with 14 persons aboard - 2 crew and 12 paying passengers. A brand new, stepped hull (with 12 chines) was created and carefully built - it had to provide not only speed and stability but, of course, do so with utmost safety – maybe like nothing else that is available

anywhere else in the world. A racing hull was used as a start, and the project grew with the grateful assistance of naval architects and Petter Martins of Berserk Designs in Belgium. The boat was delivered

on time and is already in action. Ribride are thrilled with the performance and it seems that the hull will achieve even faster speeds, although it is limited to 80mph for insurance purposes. The 11m boat is powered by 3 x Yamaha 300hp outboards. Yamaha have added extra expertise, particularly with development of the props.

Of course, the existing range of

likely to make life very interesting for this South Devon business.

Ribquest is based at Torr Trade

Park (Torr Quarry, Totnes Road, Kingsbridge), as well as at Island Street in Salcombe, and also sell Gala ribs which are new to the UK, and provide owners with all the variable requirements of rib ownership at a very reasonable price, normally with Mercury engines. (Check out Gala ribs at their website www.ukgalaboats.co.uk)
