gin Or if gin is your tipple of choice The Best of Devon Gin Festival, at the lovely river- side Double Locks in Exeter, is showcasing a wide range of the best local gins over the Easter weekend. Attendees will go on a journey of gin discovery with workshops and talks from local experts, as well as being able to sample and buy the best gins in the South West. There’ll be live presentations from lo- cal experts and lots of entertainment too, as well as complimentary gin and tonics, canapés, and a ‘gin encyclope- dia’ detailing the full range of gins on offer and interesting gin recipes. April 19 and 20 evenings is for adults only. The afternoon session on Saturday April 20 is family friendly, with free entry for children. But they don’t get a free gin and tonic!

Take a day out with Thomas the Tank Engine Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends are visiting the South Dev-
on Railway over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend, May 4 to 6. This one is a lovely day out, between the three railway stations at Buck- fastleigh, Staverton and Totnes. The ‘Fat Controller’ is in charge all day to make sure Thomas behaves and to look after the visitors. The staff and volunteers at this railway really get into their characters and bring this day to life. It’s a good giggle. Tickets include a ride behind Thomas the Tank Engine and also one of his friends; entry to the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm; re-enactments with Thomas and the Fat Controller; and entry to the Otter and Butterfly Sanctuary. Learn some yoga asanas To spring clean your mind and body now is a great time to learn some yoga asana poses. If you don’t know a tree
pose from a downward dog there are a rapidly rising number of beginner classes springing up around the South Hams. Kingsbridge’s Harbour House has been holding yoga classes for years; Simply Soulful, also in Kingsbridge, offers a huge range of classes including some quirky ones, such as yoga on stand up paddleboards and surrounded by goats. The goats don’t actually do the poses - they are there to exert an extra
sense of
calm.The Flavel in Dartmouth hosts many yoga classes and in Totnes you can’t get down the high street without tripping over yoga studios, including The Forge Yoga Centre, voted one of the best in the world no
