Boutique 144

“What woman doesn’t like to feel special? That’s what we do here at Boutique 144 – make everyone who comes through the door feel special,” explains Linda Caddick who has been putting that ethos into action for over 14 years. Whether you are looking for that

showstopper number or one of their delightfully delicate cobweb scarves; that perfect bag or a classic investment piece, the shop is always a joy to enter and especially so at the moment with the new Spring/ Summer stock adding a riot of colour to even the greyest of days. Having trained in the fashion

industry when home grown brands were admired and respected across the world, Linda regrets that, as much as she wishes to support British manufacturers, sadly that is no longer possible. “We do deal with Irish and Scottish brands but not even their goods are always made in this country. So little is manufactured here now; we have to look abroad for beautiful clothes and accessories.” A search which takes them to

Canada, Scandinavia and Germany plus, of course, those two ‘homes’ of elegant fashion – France and Italy. “Our ranges are exclusive – you

certainly won’t see everyone wearing the same outfit; indeed, in some cases, we are the sole South West stockist – but exclusive does not have to mean expensive. We have a fabulous range of dresses

to suit many occasions starting from £44.95 and, because everyone receives personal attention from either myself or one of my wonderful team of ladies, we can help them make the very best of themselves and their budget, whatever they are looking for.” If the colour or size you require is not in stock, wherever possible Linda and her team will endeav- our to order it in for you and will happily post items both within the UK and abroad. As one of her happy customers commented, “they always arrive beautifully packaged and without a crease”. However even

that service is becoming more frus- trating, as Linda explained, “Manu- facturers no longer produce stock to hold so often it simply isn’t possible to place special orders.” “We only order a limited quantity

of items and when they are gone, they are gone …. not only does that help keep them exclusive but also ensures by ordering from a variety of manufacturers throughout a season, the stock in the shop is regularly changing. All the more reason to keep coming in!” Despite the shop being full of

bright and beautiful clothes ideal for the next few months, unlike us Linda

has had to think about what we will be wearing next Winter. “I have already completed my Autumn/ Winter buying so you need to be very aware of upcoming fashion trends when ordering this far ahead but you must always remember your customers and bear in mind what they will enjoy wearing, too.” Trends come and go but ladies are

now looking for less formal outfits suitable for more than one purpose. “We rarely sell traditional ‘mother of the bride’ outfits; we encourage and help customers to build an outfit around one special piece which can then be transformed with a change of accessories – scarves, jewellery and bags – for multiple occasions.” During her time at Boutique 144 Linda has hosted more than 20 fash- ions shows for charities both local and national – from the Triangle Centre to Help for Heroes; the RNLI to St Luke’s and many, many others, each time raising huge sums for the beneficiaries. These have all been fabulous affairs with ladies ‘booking’ their tickets even before they were announced. Ladies-in-the-know come from far and wide to enjoy the Boutique 144 experience so if you haven’t visited yet, why not? As one regular said, “The window is always full of such gor- geousness, you can’t resist going in!” But if you can’t get into

Kingsbridge, why not check out their internet shop which offers a stunning selection from their ranges, especially Joseph Ribkoff – www.ladiesdesignerfashions.co.uk
