KEEP YOUR STAFF HAPPY BY RESOLVING CONFLICT

Communication plans are often concerned with how businesses communicate with potential and current customers and stakeholders through their PR, marketing and social media activities. Slowly businesses are realising that internal communications is also important as informed employees are – generally speaking – happier, more productive and more confident in their roles. But what happens when internal communications break down? How can

team members perform well together if there is conflict between them? It could be that workplace mediation is the answer. Mary Dovey, a HR consultant with more than 20 years of experience and

owner of Your People Matter(s), is a trained mediator. “Workplace conflict is inevitable at some point, regardless

of how well run a business is,” says Mary. “Allowing conflict to bubble away between

employees without taking action is not only a high-risk strategy with increased risk of internal and external claims, but can be a damaging environment to all. Dealing with conflict in the workplace quickly is key and is also an employer’s legal responsibility to try to resolve. Bringing in a trained, independent mediator to work with the parties involved and help them to find a positive resolution can save businesses time and money in the long run. The mediator does not judge or tell people what

REGARDLESS OF HOW WELL RUN A BUSINESS IS’

to do. He/she listens carefully and works with the parties to help them to address their issues, encouraging them to agree expectations and goals that they both commit to.”

TEAM HELPS ON LONDON HOTEL

The Nadler Hotels group has launched its 5th hotel in the heart of London’s Covent Garden, with help from Northampton-based building services specialists Briggs & Forrester. In 2016, the hotel group acquired

Walter House, an Edwardian building overlooking the Strand, and began works to develop it into a 57-room boutique hotel. The building has undergone a

complete redevelopment to provide modern and well-equipped rooms, many with views along the capital’s iconic Strand. Briggs and Forrester Special

Projects collaborated with contractors Blenheim House Construction to deliver the MEPH contract on the project. Services carried out included the

strip-out of existing services and the installation of the new mechanical, electrical and public health services to the bedrooms and communal areas. The five-storey hotel is located

within distance of attractions such as the Royal Opera House and West End theatres, as well as being within a five-minute walk of both Covent Garden and Charing Cross Stations.
