Young GB athlete is racing forwards with her career

Loughborough-based Amy Allcock has had an incredible 12 months. The Bennett Engineering Design Solutions Marketing Manager is also an elite Great Britain athlete, who recently added an additional international medal to her collection after winning Bronze in the European Championships in Berlin. Amy began running competitively at the age of 11 and has grown up

surrounded by elite sport. Her decision to move to Loughborough to study Sport Science with Management was fuelled mainly by her desire to use the facilities to aid her goal of becoming a staple on GB teams. 2017 was, as Amy describes, her “make or break year”. Knowing her

main passions were in the marketing field, Amy secured the role of Marketing Manager at Bennett Engineering in November 2017. The challenge of working in an unfamiliar industry appealed to her competitive nature and she has not looked back since. Currently, Amy is a World, European and British Bronze

Medallist and finished her season ranked 45th in the world and 3rd in the UK. Her successes have run parallel to Bennett Engineering, which recently reached the top four at the 2018 British Engineering Excellence Awards. Amy said: “Working for Bennett Engineering has been inspiring.

The team provide world-class solutions to a range of clients and seeing how they work together to achieve these goals has been something I have taken into my training sessions this year. Elite sport is hard to balance with other commitments, but Bennett has offered me the flexibility and support that most working athletes only dream of.”

Heritage Exhibition bowls over fans

The Cricket Derbyshire Foundation (CDF), in conjunction with the Erewash Museum in Ilkeston, has announced an extension to the current Heritage Exhibition. The exhibition, which initially

Derbyshire, is to remain open until 18 December. The Foundation’s maiden

exhibition attracted over 2,000 visitors from all over Derbyshire, as well as from Cheshire, Devon, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Suffolk and Yorkshire, including many Derbyshire County Cricket

Club members, current and former local club cricketers, supporters and others with a general interest in the game. The event has showcased a

variety of items including documents, trophies, bats, scorecards, clothing, tickets, books and newspapers, many of which have never been on public display before, and some of which date from the 19th Century. A number of generous donations

were received over the month-long event, including a 1937 Wisden Almanack, a 1906 Derbyshire Cricket Guide, originally held by the Arsenal Football Club Library, and the 1929 and 1930 editions of the Daily News Cricket Annual. A number of attendees have also agreed to record their personal

cricketing memories as part of the Oral History of Cricket in Derbyshire project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Project Officer David Griffin said:

“This has been a hugely rewarding exercise, and I have been overwhelmed by the response. “We had no idea how many

visitors would attend and to see so many people over the past month has made it all really worthwhile and demonstrates how much interest there is in the history and heritage of cricket at all levels in Derbyshire.” The Erewash Museum opens

between 10am and 4pm on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and the exhibition can be found on the first floor in The Mining Room.
