The expertise of a high-tech Nottinghamshire company has been key in helping to save lives and improve health in west Africa. 2bm designed, built and shipped
a modular data centre for the Medical Research Council unit in The Gambia, which is fighting the tide of neonatal deaths and outbreaks of killer diseases such as meningitis. The MRC Gambia unit is one of
only two in sub-Saharan Africa carrying out world-leading research and also trains hundreds of medical students from across the continent. However, it needed processing
power on site and resilient data storage to help it develop vaccines more quickly in a country where energy is expensive and unreliable. That is where Chilwell-based
2bm stepped in, to provide one of west Africa's most efficient and robust data centres which was designed and built by the company's experts in the UK. The data centre needed to be
unaffected by the high temperatures and humidity of The Gambia so the 2bm team designed an innovative cooling system. It was shipped to The Gambia
and transported from port for 15 miles across incomplete highways before a 2bm team completed final installation near Banjul. 2bm’s team took less than ten days to complete the project after

research council unit in The Gambia, said: “2bm staff showed
great professionalism, conduct and understanding and implemented this project, taking into consideration our unique environmental factors, with great energy and efficiency. “The project management skills
demonstrated by 2bm were quite extraordinary. Within 12 weeks from the time we gave the go-ahead, 2bm worked with us to design, build, test and commission a data centre which met all our needs.”
Record revenues help Tigers to roar
Leicester Tigers’ annual report and accounts for 2017/18 reveal record revenues of more than £20m for the Premiership Rugby club. In the 12 months to 30 June,
Tigers turnover increased to £20.4m, up from £19.7m on the previous year and an increase of almost £1.5m on the figures from 2015/16.
The club recorded its highest-
ever sponsorship revenues in the year, up 11% on the previous year at £2.9m, establishing a number of new relationships as well as extending existing partnerships. Ticket sales for Premiership
Rugby fixtures during the year also reached their best-ever levels as Tigers celebrated a 125th anniversary season at their
Welford Road home. More than 250,000 match tickets were sold for Premiership Rugby fixtures at Welford Road, producing an average league attendance of 22,883. The business recorded an
operating loss before tax of £991,000 - compared with a loss of £686,000 during the previous year.
Club chairman Peter Tom CBE
said: The club achieved record incomes in many areas during 2017/18 and welcomed more than quarter of a million fans to Premiership matchdays. We are very grateful to everyone associated with the club because each of them plays a part in the business.”
