THE SIBFORDIAN 2018

Sibford pupils chill out in the Alps T

he beginning of the Easter holidays saw 42 pupils aged

between nine and 17 head to Italy for the annual Sibford Ski Trip.

This tour has been running for

more than 15 years and is one of the highlights of the year for many of those involved. The 2018 destination was new to everyone but as we drove into the picturesque little

alpine town of Bormio we knew it would be a week to remember. The slopes were visible all around the valley and there was clearly an excellent base of snow to keep us going throughout our stay. On day one, many of our beginners were slightly nervous as they set out on skis for the first time ever, but they quickly showed their potential and within a few days were travelling up the mountain to try the longer blue runs all the way to the bottom. The more advanced groups found plenty to keep them busy on the two mountains we

visited, with a fantastic variety of red and black runs for those who were feeling adventurous. Throughout the week we tried

to embrace the Italian culture, enjoying huge pizzas on the slopes and steaming bowls of pasta to warm us back up in the evenings. We also found time to fit in an evening at the curling rink, a first for Sibford, and after many slips and falls our students can certainly attest to the fact that it is a lot harder than it looks at the Olympics! All in all, it was a very busy, but thoroughly enjoyable, week in the mountains and we look forward to returning to the Italian Alps for a second year in 2019.
