Florida Fair News Alachua, Pasco & Putnam October 19-27, 2018

The 2017 Alachua County fair saw several changes and additions to the fair. Change included moving our kiddy land rides to their own separate area. This change was re- ceived by our guest to much excitement. For the first time in many years we held youth livestock shows with over 100 youth participating in our two jackpot shows. Our attend-

ance was up 55% and our ride gross was up as well. We held several promotional discount days and had near perfect weather with only rain on Monday which helped raise our attendance. Belle City Amusements once again provided our carnival. In addition to our nightly main stage entertainment we had three grounds acts CatZ Mustangs, Lance Gifford Illusion and Hypnosis show, and Pets Overboard. We also had an Ag exhibit and kids petting zoo. We are looking for- ward to celebrating our 50th year in 2018!

Putnam County Fair – Mar 16-24, 2018 This year we began with an amazing surprise upgrade with a paved road into our park-

ing lot. This is a huge addition for us and many of our fairgoers welcomed the change with positive comments. While we had one day closed due to major threatening storms, we still pulled together a wonderfully attended fair. Our fair is rooted deeply in tradition and we continue to grow, especially in the education of our livestock heritage. We made sev- eral improvements to our livestock displays this year including adding cow/calf pens in the arena (as opposed to just being in the barns), we enlarged the show arena to be more safe for the exhibitors, and we added a repositionable, handicap accessible area in our dirt-floor livestock arena. The Home Division added an antique exhibit this year that was well participated and the Whip Cracking contest grew by leaps with some new sponsors and the promise of adding an adult competition next year. We are so excited for an amazing year and look forward to the next!

Michelle Card from NICA came to visit. Tracy Thompson and Jim Ward, Pasco County Fair are
