Getting to know our new directors MARK HARVEY—Director

Mark Harvey is Executive Director of the North Florida Fair. Mark has been involved with the

Federation for 13 years and is a big supporter of the Giles Ellis Memorial Golf Tournament and has chaired round table discussions. He has attended three IAFE conventions and plans to be in San Antonio in November, Mark’s entry into the fair business came after a career in law enforce- ment (much like our new President). After accepting the job he said, “Not knowing about the fair industry, I didn’t know what I could do or couldn’t do and what I should or shouldn’t do. In hind- sight, that was probably a blessing. I wasn’t afraid to try new ideas and different things.” Begin- ning in 2008, the attendance figures began to rise. In 2011 was a record crowd that began a suc- cession of record crowds for 5 more years. Mark has received the 2014 Friend of 4H Award, awarded by the Florida Association of Exten-

sion 4H Agents. Also a Meritorious Service Award for apprehending a robber while off duty and unarmed. His hobbies include golf and cycling. He took up cycling after a serious motorcycle crash 20

years ago to rehab some broken bones. Mark met his wife while riding his bike and they have cy- cled over 50,000 miles together. He and Suzanne (they actually attended the same high school but didn’t know each other then) have four children: Scott, Brittney, Sarah, and Juliaanne. Three grandchildren living outside Denver, Colorado, William, Jeni, and Alex.

RICHARD GEORGE—Associate Director Richard George is a 4th generation Concessionaire. “Growing up in this business, I found out

that the jobs are very unique. When I was seven years old, I started picking up rings in a Coke pitch. From there, I ran a merry-go-round. At the age of ten, my parents decided it was time for me to get started in the family business. I helped my grandfather run my family’s hot dog and lemonade stand. Today I still run my family’s business, George’s Fun Foods” with my lovely wife. Together, we are teaching our daughter the ways of the business. I am so proud of our industry, from our forefather’s foundation until today as we work together. Concessionaires and Commit- tees, to close the gap on communications. I believe that “Together We Can!”
