Halesworth & Southwold Community News July 2018 23 Update From Halesworth Tourism Group
OUR next evening meeting will be on Wednesday 1st August and everyone is welcome to attend. You do not have to be involved directly in tourism as long as you support our goal of promoting halesworth and the Blyth Valley. One way we do this is to highlight local tourism attractions. We will meet at the Cut at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start to our
IT’S started; yes, at last we have started our thatch repair. The project was launched with a well-attended daylong event. Our Master Thatcher Stephen Letch demonstrated thatching techniques showing the different kinds of reed, wheat, long straw and sedge that can be used. An exhibition included teasing questions about the history of the church suggesting that these would be answered in the booklet
evening exploring halesworth’s Malt heritage. If you would like to know more about our group, email halesworthtourismgroup@gmail. com or phone Alison Britton, on 01986 874292. We meet at the Angel on the first Wednesday of the month, usually at 10am but every quarter (August being an example) we have an evening meeting.

we are preparing, the Story of St Peter’s. Welcome refreshments donated
by church members were served all day with tables set throughout the church enabling visitors to sit and enjoy the ambiance of this historic building. We are grateful for all the
grants and donations and especially the heritage Lottery who have enabled all of this to happen.

News from Halesworth
Community Church
I AM writing this in a hotel on the edge of the new Forest. It sounds grand – and it is – but the purpose of our visit is not so grand. Yesterday we travelled to see a lady who has been struggling with Me for more than ten years. She had to give up her career in Occupational Therapy and has since spent large parts of her days resting. She had written in to the website asking for help. We spent over two hours with her and her husband and by the end of that time she had hope. There is a cure. It isn’t just about managing it.
Today we visit a couple whose
marriage hangs in the balance. The husband has deep-seated issues from his past that he needs to understand and to handle if the marriage is going to survive. Tomorrow we meet a father at Taunton who is travelling up from Cornwall with his daughter to talk through painful experiences in their lives. Amid surrounding beauty there
is pain. That is life. Suffolk, and our own town of halesworth, is no exception and that is why we are considering putting on some ‘open discussion’ evenings in the town on some of the subjects that we deal with daily – e.g. anxiety, depression, Me, panic attacks. If such an evening would be of interest to you, please let us know via our website link so we can assess the interest. For more information on this or any of our activities, please visit our website: www. halesworthcommunitychurch. org John Sparkes

and DVD’s to choose from at amazingly cheap prices; also, vinyl’s and taped books. Small electrical items which are all PAT tested. Some of our unusual or larger items are sold on e-bay or at local sales. Watches are checked to make sure they are in working order. Delicious homemade jams, including lemon curd and marmalade are always in great demand – a special thank you to Ann (we wish you well) and all our jam makers – we really appreciate your time and effort in doing this for us. Thankyou Bob and Maggie, and Judy for our local storage. We are amazed at the generosity of the community which enables us to offer items at a realistic price to ensure a good turn-over of stock, bringing in much needed funds for the work of this local charity. The halesworth Community nursing Care Fund continues to provide additional care for those in the last weeks, days of life enabling people to remain at home if that is their wish. We continue to raise money too for the running costs of ‘The Pear Tree Centre’ which is now at the tendering process stage with building to commence in the Autumn next to the Cutlers hill surgery. This is only possible because of the continued local community support and visitors to our shop. Thank you again for coming and spending! Donations of saleable items
- clean clothes, household goods, toys, books, kitchenware, unwanted gifts and smaller pieces of furniture are welcome. We also accept clean clothes and household items for recycling – please let us know when dropping them into us – we make several hundred pounds a month. If you have more than a couple of bags at a time or larger items or need collection, we ask that you phone 07733 668221 and leave a message, so we can phone you back to make arrangements. We also welcome donations of new items, bottles and tins for the tombola and raffles held during the year. Our annual week in the pop-
up shop I- Chameleon is July 19th to 25th – Cake stall on Saturday 21st July and Tombola Wednesday 25th July in addition to others items for sale, Donations delivered to the shop would be most welcome.

Isolation Busters nexT month, we will be telling you some exciting news about our amazing Isolation Busters Programme. Our 24th Isolation Buster volunteer has just started supporting people in the Community. L is in her early 20s and so is our youngest Isolation Buster – if you don’t count our doggy volunteers. If you have some spare time and would like to provide a little bit of help and support to someone who is living on their own, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Applying to be a volunteer is easy but it is so rewarding. If you know someone who is
living alone or you are concerned about a neighbour or friend, just call Karen on 01986 875600 and we will see if Isolation Busters can help.

We have been taking passengers there for many years and we know what a difference the team at Rayner Green have made to so many families. huge thanks to Michael and the Team for all they have done. We are very pleased to be a part of a group who are trying to ensure that daycare services continue in halesworth. In the meantime, we
