May 5, 2018 Songs of the Phoenix

Santa Rosa, CA. ~ Sonoma Matsuri is thrilled to present Songs of the Phoenix, an eve- ning of music for the shaku- hachi featuring Grand Master Riley Lee (Sydney Australia) and local shakuhachi teacher and performer, Elliot

Kal-

len. In a series of solos, du- ets, and ensemble pieces, the sounds of the shakuhachi will honor the ongoing rebirth of the North Bay and beyond fol- lowing the devastating fires of 2017. Special guest musi- cians will join in for this rare opportunity to showcase the versatility and haunting beauty of the shakuhachi as both an instrument of Zen meditation and an incredibly expressive instrument in modern music. The concert will showcase the superb acoustics of the historic, charming Church of One Tree in downtown Santa Rosa. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. 492 Sonoma Ave. 707-575-8626.
