Santa Rosa, CA. ~ When the train at Santa Rosa’s Youth Community Park opens for the season at noon on May 5th, families are invited to a Golden Spike celebration and to be the first to enjoy double the train riding experience! That’s because Redwood


Empire Live Steamers Inter- active Museum has just com- pleted a 1,000-foot, back loop track expansion, taking train riders beyond the existing wa- terfall loop and into the back, wooded section of the park. “On May 5th, we’ll be driving the Golden Spike at our grand opening celebration to mark the completion of a multi-year project that doubles the length of track at Youth Park; this ex- pansion creates a whole new dimension to the train riding experience,” says Don Brun- er-Welch of Redwood Empire Live Steamers. The project, which was com-


pleted with the help of the Boy Scouts of America, brings the total length of track to just over 2,000 feet. The train and track,


built and operated by Red- wood Empire Live Steamers, offers free rides to train lovers of all ages at Youth Park, one weekend a month May to Octo- ber. “Riding the steam train at Youth Park has been a favorite activity for Santa Rosa families since 2007 and now it promises to be all that much more fun”, says Jason Nutt, Acting Direc- tor of Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks. “The hard-work and generosity of Redwood Empire Live Steamers—a nonprofit, all-volunteer group— makes this experience possible and we’re excited and proud to join the celebration!” he adds.
