MEMBER NEWS IN BRIEF

Membership duo recognised by Google

Nottingham-based digital agency The Web Design Group (TWDG) has been recognised as one of the country’s top performing online marketing companies by Google, while Gravity Digital has achieved Google Partner status. Thanks to continued growth,

progress and achievement with Google AdWords, TWDG was invited to participate in the Google Elevator programme. The initiative is designed to reward the top 30 UK agencies and help them gain even more in the future. Delivered by renowned

business development forward- thinker Robert Craven, Elevator consists of three mentoring sessions at the London offices of Google. On top of this, TWDG was granted a series of one-to- one consultations with Craven, focusing specifically on TWDG and its operations, development and goals. This tailored advice, and the

valuable insights that come along with it, has given the agency a platform to further boost its offerings and practices. Google AdWords products

offer almost instant success if approached in the right way. As a Google Partners agency, combined with the Elevator Programme, TWDG has proven success in delivering results. Fellow Chamber member

Gravity Digital has achieved Google Partner status, meaning that it is has been able to demonstrate that its AdWords skills and expertise meets the Google ad spending requirements across the company’s portfolio of managed clients, delivering client revenue growth in the process Debbie Porter, Director at

Gravity Digital, said: “We have always been recognised for providing our customers with an unrivalled service when managing their AdWords accounts and with this accreditation from Google we can continue to drive targeted groups of customers to websites through Pay Per Click (PPC) activity to complement our search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques.” Early last year Gravity Digital

put its Google AdWords account management skills to work for its chosen charity, Just for Dogs, and successfully managed to obtain $10,000 per month of AdWords grant from Google. Gravity Digital manages this budget for Just for Dogs, keeping the campaigns within the strict criteria set by Google.

Celebrating achievement at first Academy Awards

More than 300 people attended Derby College’s first Academy Awards, which were held at the Roundhouse recently. The event celebrated the

success, achievements and commitment of employers, staff and students who are involved in the college’s innovative Employer Academies and Employment and Skills Boards. Derby College works with around

3,000 businesses and organisations with a large proportion involved in helping to shape the curriculum for students and providing work placements, speakers and projects for students across the college sites in Derby, Morley and Ilkeston. Derby College Group Chief

Executive Mandie Stravino said:

‘Employers are embedded into the work of the college’

“Employers are embedded into the work of the college – whether that is working with our curriculum areas to ensure they provide the required skills now and in the future or providing valuable work experience to better prepare young people for the world of work. “We are extremely grateful for

this support and the first Academy Awards celebrate and recognise the valuable role that employers have in this organisation.” The evening was compered by

Derby College Deputy Principal April Hayhurst and presented by

Chamber members Dean Jackson from HUUB and Ryan Duckett from Derbyshire County Cricket Club. Awards were presented by Derby College Group CEO Mandie Stravino and Derby City Council Leader Cllr Ranjit Banwait. The awards were followed by live

music and the event raised more than £2,200 for the Derby Breakfast Club initiative, which is Derby College’s designated charity partner in 2018. April said: “Our first Academy

Awards were a huge success and a fitting tribute to all the employers, staff and students who have all worked hard to make these partnerships so effective in bridging the gap between education and employment.”

Clean buses take to the road

trentbarton is spending £5m in 2018 on 30 new buses that will help reduce pollution in Derby and Nottingham – each of the new buses for the i4 and indigo services will emit less nitrogen dioxide than a new car. All the new buses meet the latest

Euro VI emissions standard, including for NOx, and will take the number of Euro VI vehicles in the trentbarton fleet to 108. They will help Derby as the city prepares to introduce a clean air zone in 2020. With a full bus carrying 15 times

more people than a full car – and many cars carrying only the driver at peak times – the new buses will

provide a significantly cleaner choice of transport for the people and commuters of Derby and Nottingham. Fifteen of the new buses will be

deployed on indigo and 13 on i4. 2018’s £5m builds on the £5m spent on new buses and on upgrades in 2017, which was trentbarton’s biggest ever investment in a single year. Jeff Counsell, Managing Director

at trentbarton, said: “Air pollution is a problem for everyone. While no one organisation can tackle this challenge alone, trentbarton is committed to playing a leading role.

“It’s a sign of our commitment

that we are again investing a considerable amount of money into cleaner buses that provide existing customers with a great journey experience that also tempts car drivers to make the cleaner switch. “For an independent local

operator, trentbarton has been leading the industry with our delivery standards for a number of years. Our drivers are currently ranked as the best in England, and our satisfaction and value for money, as ranked by customers, are some of the highest in the country. Now has never been a better time to be using public transport.”
