Enterprise support for students
The Chamber is partnering with The Careers & Enterprise Company to support enterprise adviser recruitment in the region across the diverse range of employers operating in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. The Careers & Enterprise
Company was created in 2015 by Government to provide a one-stop- shop for employers, schools, colleges, funders and providers to offer high impact careers and enterprise support for young people, working in collaboration with the Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) across England. Enterprise advisers will become
part of a national network - a community of businesses including 2,000 volunteers, 2,000 schools/colleges, 120 enterprise coordinators and some 100 programme providers. Each school/college will be supported by an enterprise coordinator and a volunteer from business - the enterprise adviser. The adviser provides the link to local employers as well as helping the school develop a productive and meaningful careers education strategy.
By getting involved, employers
will become part of a national network supported locally by an enterprise coordinator. As an enterprise adviser, you will: • Be matched with a school in your area
• Work with a head teacher or careers team to develop a careers strategy
‘Evidence suggests a young person who has four or more encounters with an employer is 86% less likely to be unemployed’
Evidence suggests a young
person who has four or more encounters with an employer is 86% less likely to be unemployed or not in education or training and can earn up to 18% more during their career. The benefit to employers is that they can access a pipeline of talent well prepared to make the transition from education to work. In December 2017, Government launched its new careers strategy, which gave The Careers &
Enterprise Company a significant role in improving careers provision for young people and the Chamber is well placed to support this activity. Developing this working
relationship will help tackle some of the problems highlighted in feedback from employers, that young people are still leaving education ill-equipped in terms of skills and attributes required to make a successful transition into employment.
• Share insights about job opportunities and the key skills local and national businesses need
• Use your network to open doors and create more work encounters for young people
• Use research to choose the most effective careers programme providers and resources
• Be supported by a trained, full- time enterprise coordinator
• Benefit from ongoing training and peer support from other volunteers and networking events
