• Sunday 21st January, Vintage Film Event at 3pm in the Cathedral Hall, features footage of some of the celebrations around Scotland at the end of WW1 and local life in the 1920s, while over on St.Kilda, it was very different. The Arts Guild is delighted to welcome Mike Nolan to bring these silent films to life at the keyboard. Tickets at the door, or in advance from Smallprint: Adult £9 Child/Student/Unemployed £2


• Monday 22nd January, Dunblane Cathedral Guild at 2pm in the Cathedral Hall when we’ll discuss the topic of “loving those you find hard to love” all welcome to join us.





Tuesday 23rd January, Dunblane Local History Society, Cathedral Halls 7.30pm. Gowan Hill : Stirlings Forgotten Jewel by Dr Murray Cook. Stirling Council’s Archaeologist This talk is very much about a local place. Murray will explain why he considers Gowan Hill to be both Stirling’s most historic and important park and its most overlooked one. It has been a farm, part of the Royal Park, a quarry,a place of beheadings and the scene of bloody clashes between Celts and Romans and Bonnie Prince Charlie and the government! It features Scotland’s most accessible vitrified fort, Stirling’s bloody beheading stone and the mysterious Roman Stone. Visitors are very welcome at our meetings. Admission charge £1.50 which includes tea or coffee and biscuits.


• Wednesday 24th January, Dunblane SWI in the Victoria Hall at 7.30 p.m. when we are having a Games Night.


• Monday 29th January, Dunblane Cathedral Guild at 2pm in the Cathedral Hall Drop-In for scrabble, jigsaw making, card games and tea/coffee and fellowship. All welcome.


• Monday 5th February, Dunblane Cathedral Guild at 7.30pm in the Cathedral Hall. “Brightcare” will tell us about the care they provide locally. All welcome.


• Wednesday 7th February, Dunblane and District Gardening Club at Cathedral Halls 2pm. An interesting talk by Brian Young on “Plant Heritage”. Holmes Farm Plants. Members and visitors welcome.





Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th February, Scottish Cat Association International Cat Show at the Dunblane Centre. 10am - 4.30pm each day. £2 adult admission/£1 per child


• Sunday 11th February, Forth Valley Friends of Scottish Opera February’s event is a talk by Michael Downes, Director of Music at St Andrews University. His subject is Jonathan Dove’s opera Flight, a comedy about a group of travellers stuck in an airport, which comes to Scotland shortly. 2.30 pm, Smith Art Gallery and Museum, Stirling. Entrance £5, free to students.

• Monday 12th February, Dunblane Civic Society meets at 7:30pm in the Braeport Centre. Alan McKirdy will talk on “The Geology and Landscapes of Scotland”. A warm welcome to all. Visitors’ admission is £2.

Tuesday 13th February, Dunblane Local History Society, Cathedral Halls 7.30pm. Robert Dick of Tullibody - Baker, Naturalist and Victorian Icon. Dr Roy Sexton. Naturalist and Historian from Bridge of Allan. Local speaker Roy Sexton has given two very interesting talks to the Society in the past and he returns to describe the fascinating life of Robert Dick who grew up in Tullibody. Although only an humble and retiring baker he was a self taught botanist and geologist who supplied Hugh Miller a leader of the Free Church and geologist with important fossils from Thurso where he went to live. He shied publicity and died in poverty but his contribution to geology is now widely recognised - there is a pillar in the Grand Canyon named after him and a group of fossil fish. Visitors are very welcome at our meetings. Admission charge £1.50 which includes tea or coffee and biscuits. (Please note that this talk is on the second Tuesday of the month and not our normal third Tuesday).


• Monday 17th February, Dunblane Cathedral Guild, Cathedral Hall. 10-12 noon join us for a coffee morning to raise funds for the Guild Projects.


• Sunday 18th February at 3pm, an Arts Guild Concert in Dunblane Cathedral. Cavendish Winds, an outstanding wind quintet on tour with a Tunnell Trust award, bring an engaging programme that ranges from Mozart to modern, with a good mix of moods and styles. Tickets at the door, or in advance from Smallprint: £9 Adult £2 Child/Student/Unemployed


• Monday 19th February, Dunblane Cathedral Guild at 2pm in the Cathedral Hall “Beat the Beast Challenge” Archie from Doune, is an inspirational speaker having been in the army. Come along and hear his positive ideas.


• Wednesday 21st February, Dunblane Accordion & Fiddle Club, 7.30pm in the Victoria Hall. Guests will be Klye Rowan, duo. All players, any instrument, warmly welcomed.
