Sporty Pupils invited to apply for Beaconhurst Scholarships

Talented athletes are being invited to apply for sports scholarships at Beaconhurst School.

The independent Bridge of Allan school is hosting its fi rst Sports Scholarship Recruitment Day early next year to assess pupils and give them the chance to fi nd out more about the programme.

The school has performance programmes in place for its Beacon sports of Golf, Triathlon, Tennis and Swimming and off ers scholarships to pupils who excel in these fi elds.

They benefi t from a tailored plan which combines academic studies with coaching in their chosen sport.

Director of Sport Judith Graham said: “We want to be proactive and fi nd out about talented athletes in the area who can benefi t from our sports scholarship programmes.

“This is a great opportunity for pupils to come along, meet our coaching team and hear more about our programmes.”

The event will take place on Thursday January 25 and applications are invited from pupils who will be going into P6-S6 in August 2018.

Successful applicants and their parents will be invited to the session which includes the chance to meet coaches; try out for selection and fi nd out more about the school’s sporting pathways.

Mrs Graham said: “Pupils will have the chance to show us their talents on the tennis courts, at the Golf Hub or on the athletics track and we’re really

looking forward to meeting some talented athletes from across Central Scotland.

If successful, they’ll

benefi t from our bespoke programme of coaching and studying which fi ts into the school day. And going into the future, there are lots of pathways our scholars take – some are aspiring sports stars who go into professional sport as a career while others take a route into coaching and combine that with high-level competition.”

Anyone interested in applying for a scholarship, which can cut school fees by up to 50%, should contact the school for an application form and information pack.

Headteacher Sandra Bannerman said: “We’re

delighted to open our doors to look at what sports talent is out there in the wider community and this initiative gives us the chance to do that.

“Scholarship is an acknowledgement of excellence and the awards give talented children an opportunity to discover and develop their sporting potential alongside an excellent education.”

A limited number of scholarships are available in each of the school’s four Beacon Sports - Tennis, Golf, Triathlon and Swimming.
