Jimmy Sexton headed up the Full Moon
All-Star Band, featuring a stage filled with great musicians that included, among others, Bruce Wall, Phil Swindle, Nadine and Charlie Atkin- son, Coconut Harley, Paul Axtell. J.R. Roberts and a virtual wall of guitars. The band rocked through a hot set of Skynyrd and other songs. Back inside the Lodge, we were rocking
to Tryal By Fire, and boy howdy were they ever great. Guitarist Mike Owings was outstanding, and the lead vocalist brought to mind a young Ann Wilson (Heart) combined with a dash of Janis Joplin. The lady rocked, as did the entire band. I actually came close to dancing. A scary thought! All I can say is the Full Moon Festival

those chat rooms during the mid to late 1990’s. Barry Lee Harwood, an old friend and a mem- ber of the Rossington Collins Band during their heyday, arrived. It was great seeing Barry Lee again, as well as Derek Hess, who was the drummer for RCB, among other legendary bands. I had chatted and spoken with Derek in the past, but it was great to finally meet him face to face. Another band that was just plain fun was
the Second Shot Band, with Paul Axtell (brother of the late great Dave Hlubek) on vo- cals. They rocked out on some heavy tunes, in- cluding several from Molly Hatchet - “Fall of the Peacemakers” and “Edge of Sundown” among them. Michelle Leigh and band with special
guests Barry Lee Harwood and Derek Hess turned in a great set as always, doing many of Michelle’s signature tunes, and a simply red- hot rendition of Rossington Collins’ biggest hit, “Don’t Misunderstand Me.” Awesome.

was everything I had been told and more. So many nice folks, great musicians, good food, great fellowship, and tons of new friends. What else can one ask for. All of us at the Southern Rock Hall of Fame thank all of the bands, the cooks, the volunteers, the Lodge and of course, Keith Hall. For those of us who experienced it, it will remain a truly happy memory. For those who missed it, all I can say is, “you should have been there!” Now bring all my mules out here and kick ‘em one time! •
