Cornelian
Association
Are you paying a sub to the Cornelian Association?
If so, read this!
For decades, Mayfield school leavers opted to pay a subscription to the former old girls' organisation, now called the Cornelian Association. If you left more than 10 years ago you may still be paying a subscription to the Cornelian Association (probably by standing order) but you no longer need to do so.
As the school now runs the alumnae association, the Cornelian Association now has a different focus and we use our revenues to support the charitable work of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in, for instance, Africa and the Dominican Republic. We also support bursaries for less-privileged students at the school and continue to provide the prize for the Head Girl and to fund a monthly Mass being said for all deceased old girls. The Association has also contributed to the development of the new Sixth-Form centre at Mayfield.
Should you wish to continue to make a payment to the Cornelian Association it will be considered a charitable contribution to our work. Funds will no longer be transferred automatically to the school. We shall be delighted to use such monies in the best way we can.
You need now to check whether you are still paying a subscription and decide whether to instruct your bank to cancel the standing order, or whether to continue to make voluntary payments as a donation to the Association's charitable purposes.
Thank you very much for your support over the years. How we have used (y)our cash
The plight of refugees has hit the headlines and pulled our heart strings recently, so in keeping with the Cornelian Association's objective of supporting the charitable work of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus who were supporting refugees in Lancashire we donated £2,000. The Society decided to help support the Mayfield community's cause ‘Voices in Exile’ based in Brighton, Sussex. They wrote: "We are using your money to go with some of our own funds to respond to a request from our Mayfield community: they are supporting an initiative in the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. They are cooperating with a group called Voices in Exile who have launched a Rent Deposit Scheme with East Sussex Credit Union to help support refugee families to find homes. I hope that you will feel that this is a good use of the money and we felt that you would be happy for it to be used via the Mayfield community."

We also contributed £1,000 to the charitable work of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in the Dominican Republic.
